The mean is the same as average. You add up all the numbers in the set then divide it by how many numbers there are. for example: pretend the numbers are 4,2,7,5,2. to find the mean i add them all up. 139+2+7+5+2=155. now i divide. there are 5 numbers so 155 divided by 5 is 31. 31 is the mean. What's the difference between"mean" and "average"
"Mean" has a precise mathematical definition (and in fact, there are several types) and you're very unlikely to hear it outside those contexts. "Average" is usually a colloquial term that usually means arithmetic mean, but can also mean "typical" or "neither good nor bad." More on reddit.com

How to find the mean of a data set?
Well, those are frequencies, which tell you how many of each number there are. So there are two 1’s, five 2’s, eight 3’s, etc. The total number of observations (n) is the sum of all the frequencies. Multiply each number by its frequency, add those all up, and then divide by n. n = 2+5+8+12+12+0+1 = 40 Σxƒ(x)=1(2)+2(5)+3(8)+4(12)+5(12)+6(0)+ 7(1) = 151 x̄ = 151/40 = 3.775 More on reddit.com

September 29, 2025 - The number of values removed is indicated as a percentage of the total number of values. The interquartile mean is a specific example of a truncated mean. It is simply the arithmetic mean after removing the lowest and the highest quarter of values. ... assuming the values have been ordered, so is simply a specific example of a weighted mean for a specific set of weights. In some circumstances, mathematicians may calculate a mean of an infinite (or even an uncountable) set of values.
