hi, i’m trying to log into my relatively new macbook. i wrote down the password safely so i don’t forget and every time i submit it does not work. There aren’t any buttons to reset the pass or anything either. What should I do? is there any way to view password for max through my phone or something ?

Type it in slowly and count the “•”s to see if they match. If not, plug in a keyboard, it may be the internal board. You can also reset the password from the recovery partition, but you will have to unlink and relink your iCloud account if you do. There are apple help articles you can find that will walk you through it. Once done, you may lose saved passwords and whatnot, but you’ll be able to get all your files back. Lastly, if your Apple ID is linked, you can use that to reset the password without losing everything. If you have that turned on. Good luck.

This may sound crazy but try entering your password backwards. I had a similar problem and then noticed that when entering, it was resetting the cursor placement to the first character every time. Only ever happened once.

I have a MacBook Air, a new one I believe (probably M2 or M3), that I do not know the password for. I have tried to erase the Mac, but as soon as I press options in the recovery mode it wants me to “select a user you know the password for”.
As I said, I do not know the password to the previous user, so I tried to sign in with my own Apple-ID. However, it does not allow me to sign in. It says I use the wrong ID or password, even though I know for sure that I have typed everything correctly.
In all the guides I have seen, no one has included this step. The former user worked with cybersecurity, so maybe it has something to do with that.
I would really appreciate some help :)
FYI, it was my dead uncle’s computer, I’m not a thief 😅

If you click on the "Recovery Assistant" menu in the top left, there should be an option for "Erase Mac". Alternatively, if you click "Forgot all passwords" this will do the same thing. It'll erase the drive. Then it'll reboot back into Recovery, go to the Activation check, and then once that Activation check is passed, it'll pass you, still in Recovery Assistant, to a place where you can download and install Sonoma (or Ventura, depending on the age of the Mac).

So, i just recently changed my login password after having the same one for 4 years. i have biometric on as well and that's how i usually get in. but my laptop was sitting not on a charge (battery was still at 100%) and it shut down while i was at work.
i didn't think much of it being powered down and then i tried to log in with what i THOUGHT i changed it to and nope. multiple tries and now I'm at "locked out for an hour".
i don't think i did any backup on this since i got it.. id hate to factory reset it and lose all my documents, invoices, etc.
how do i get back in without resetting the whole thing?
and i also don't know if i know my apple id because i don't buy anything from the Apple store.

You can try shutting the Mac down first, and then holding the power button until you’re brought to “Startup Options.” Once there, click on “Options” and you should start booting into macOS recovery. If you are lucky, you don’t need a password to get into recovery. Once in recovery, up towards the Menu Bar, click on Utilities > Terminal to open a terminal window. In the terminal window, type “resetpassword” and hit enter. You should then be presented a new screen that walks you through setting a new password.

Hey!
So I have a MacBook Pro 2015 and somehow I have forgotten my password.
The thing is, it was linked to my Time Machine and that had a file of photos I would LOVE to get!
Tried the Apple ID way to reset but is coming up with an network error.
