I don't think there's a difference for these instances, numbers in Spanish are generally read/said as they're written, in some instances they can be "reduced or split" when it's kinda obvious what you mean. For example you are with your friends in a restaurant and you ask for the check. ¿Cuánto es? Quinientos pesos. Está bien, yo pongo dos cincuenta (instead of doscientos cincuenta) y ustedes ponen el resto. Or ¿Cuánto te costó tu teléfono? Cinco (mil pesos) The currency and the "mil" are omitted because we know the price of a phone can't be 5 pesos (25¢ USD) or 5 million pesos (250,000 USD). A $250 is a logic expected price for a phone. However this is not the norm or expected everytime but you can come across with that kind of expressions from time to time :D and saying the whole numbers is common and natural. Dates are always fully read and reading digits like fifteen hundred or similar is not a thing at all. Answer from MadMan1784 on reddit.com

r/Spanish on Reddit: What are different ways to express large numbers in spanish
May 19, 2022 -
What I want to know is what are the common ways to express large numbers similar to how English speakers say things like “four o one” as 401 “nineteen ninety seven” as 1997. “Fifteen hundred” as 1500. Ten k as 10000.
I’m mostly interested in Latin american Spanish over Spanish Spanish if that makes a difference.

Hello thrower94 I'm from Chile, for your questions, 401 it depends. For example I used to work in a hotel and we always used Rooms as cuatro cero uno. But when you're saying for example the times that you tried to park or count. you used to say cuatrocientas un veces. As far as dates like years is better to say the long version as 1997 mil novecientos noventa y siete, we dont used twenty twenty two unless you talk about the 80's where you can use los ochentas, la musica de los ochentas. Then 1500 is mil quinientos, long version and 10000 diez mil. The only way we use shorter versions is with cell numbers as 22 23 108 veintidos veintitres ciento ocho. Hope it helped.:-)

One game I like to play is when driving in the car, I practice saying 4-digit license plate numbers as if they were numbers in the thousands. After a while, it feels more natural to say. As long as you remember the roots cien, cientos, mil, miles, millón, millones, you should be able to get by using big numbers in Spanish.

Spanish Numbers 1-1000: How to Count in Spanish With Ease
September 1, 2022 - As you know by now, counting in Spanish follows a very logical system. All you need is a few blocks (1-9, tens, and hundreds), and then you just put them together like legos. For numbers between 101 and 999, you just have to put the hundreds first, followed by the number in the last two digits. Think of it like you’re saying two separate numbers at once.

Spanish Numbers: How to Count From 1 to 1000+
June 10, 2022 - Once you get to 1000, the pattern becomes more regular. For example: Note that the word mil never changes to a plural form. Un millón, on the other hand, does have plural forms. For example: You also need to be careful with the Spanish word billón, which is used to refer to one million millions, which equals a trillion when written in English (12 zeros).
