Best Buy may be able to avoid 15 day return policy if was an open box and they disclosed it, but the PC manufacturer' cannot avoid the one year full Support, Service and Replacement Warranty that all new hardware comes with under law.
So keep in mind that at any time you can conctact HP Support and if they try to sell you up, tell them you just want basic warranty service under the law.

- If nothing there helps then go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...
Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.
- Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware using HP Support Assistant, or manually by using Serial Number here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.
Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.
- If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Tutorial here: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/fix-windows...
- Run HP hardware diagnostics by powering on while pressing the ESC key:then F2 do the long tests.
One of these steps should do it so take your time and don't skip any, ask back if you need help.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.

Here are the things I've done so far:
- Updated Windows.
- Made sure NVIDIA Drivers were up to date.
- Changed link state power management to OFF.
- Got rid of any Bloatware.
- Used System File Checker, nothing out of the ordinary.
- Disabled any services in the System Configuration Utility that looked out-of-place. (Only one was McAfee, I ended up removing it completely.)
- Ran a full scan with Malwarebytes, nothing out of the ordinary.
- Updated the BIOS.
- After doing this and rebooting, the fans are now noticeable, I can hear them spinning usually, and the computer is no longer slow when it first starts up.
I am currently running the sfc /scannow command, but so far, there have been absolutely no fixes. The only time I've noticed a difference is when I lowered my resolution from 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1080. I'm not entirely sure why this changed anything. But I will describe the changes I noticed:
- Previously, when trying to run 7 Days to Die, the game would give a black screen either immediately or within 3 seconds.
- After switching the resolution, I could run it for about 3 minutes, I then ended up closing the game. I am not sure how long it would have actually ran.
- Previously, when I tried to load up an RTX world on the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft, it would crash as soon as the world loaded, or within a second.
- When the resolution is changed AND I'm in windowed mode, it works, but if I press the windows key, (I did this to try and take a screenshot with windows + shift + s) it gives me the black screen.
As of typing this, the sfc command is at 60% verification of the system scan. I will update you on that when it finishes.
So I bought a 30L with the 5800X and 3080 a couple months ago. And, like a good number of people, I'm having trouble with crashes. Just running Rocket League, maybe 5-10 minutes in the screen will suddenly go black and the monitor will say "no signal". Sound cuts out as well.
The lights on the PC stay on, as well as the fans (though they aren't running full blast at this point, typically). The keyboard lights up as well, which means that it's detecting that it's connected to the PC.
At first, I thought it was a power issue. I unplugged the computer from the power strip it was in and instead plugged it directly into the wall. This seemed to fix the issue for a few weeks. Maybe it was just a coincidence though because lately it's gotten worse, can't get through a game of Rocket League today.
Temperature issue is possible as well, but frankly my components aren't running that hot when it happens. Here is a text file of GPU-Z output right up to the moment of the latest crash. GPU at 60.7 C, hot spot of 73.6C. CPU temp of 74.6C. Running benchmarks I get temperatures well above those and it seems just fine (although I guess I haven't run the benchmarks for longer than 5 minutes).
So I don't think it's a cooling issue.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.
Edit: i sent it in and they replaced the GPU, that resolved the issue for me.
I have seen quite a few people run into this issue with the HP o men Desktop 25l, 30L, and similar. I ran into it myself just this past week on my 875-1023, wth a Shire Motherboard.. Prior to this happening, I was getting a 90D Temp too high error every time I booted up, along with a Corrupted CMOS error, but HP support gave me nothing on the tech support boards and I had just gone out of warranty when the issues started. Last week I rebooted the system for a Nvidia graphics update, at first it showed just an Omen logo for over an hour, but the screen was weird, like the background was 800x600 or something. I force powered it down, then it came up with just a black screen. No error beeps, my TV did recognize a signal from my RTX, but that is all I knew. I tried everything I could find with no luck, then I tried a few things at random and got it working, no more CMOS issues, and reboots have gone perfectly..
The fix:
I got a USB keyboard, as I was using a wireless Logitech MX key and mouse. I held done the windows key and the B key, then I also pressed and held the power button, until it started beeping, I waited for it to finish, then let go. The CMOS reset screen came up, where it resets the bios. Now this is just a reset, but it starts the process, because as far as I can understand, the Shire motherboards, like mine, and many other similar HP boards have multiple CMOS/BIOS systems, in case one gets corrupted and can't repair itself. This time I got a display, got an overheated warning, I got a corrupted CMOS warning, etc. but when it tried to load Windows, I got a DXGKRNL.sys error or something, and neither the auto repairs or attempts at booting worked, just blue screened. I tried getting into BIOS/CMOS settings, but even when I did, the system shut off after a few seconds.
After a day of messing around, my eyes kept getting dragged to 3 pins on the side, by where the WIFI card lugs in, and where the Graphics car power would plugin, same side of the board where the 24 pin atx power plugs in. The pins look like this, and I have enlarged the labels.
I know these systems have dual CMOS, and I was thinking that EBB# might have been a way to do that. The other 2 had no effect. So, I plugged a jumper onto pins 5-6, when I turned it on it started beeping right away, then the notice that it was rewriting the CMOS popped up, it did that, rebooted and verified, the bios, after this, when it reboots, yank that jumper off, or it will keep doing it. Finally, it loaded up with no temp error or corruption messages, Windows booted perfectly. I have rebooted it a few times with no issues. I hope this helps someone. .
I restarted my PC earlier today. (I installed xbox360ce to use my logitech wheel today) and had to restart my pc when this happened. My keyboard and mouse stay off and my monitors detect input but won’t show anything.
What i’ve tried:
Removing ram and trying different slots
Removing the BIOS battery and replacing it
Specs i know of:
AMD Ryzen 7
Geforce RTX 2060
Any help would be appreciated and if you have questions about other specs or would like to see something inside the pc please let me know, thanks.
Hey there, randomly about once a month my Hp omen has this black screen on boot, it takes me like 10-20 minutes of turning it off on, interrupting the boot, and just spamming buttons on my keyboard to get to this screen which will finally fix it, I don’t know why this issue keeps happening and I don’t know whats wrong with the TPM but if anyone can fix this issue it would help a lot
This is something of a hail mary since I've already browsed so many posts on this issue, but I thought it was worth a shot. I have an HP Omen 30L (Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070) and I've started to get the black screen issue. When starting any game at all, both monitors go black losing all input, and never regaining it until I force restart the PC. The sound will still play and the computer stays on when this occurs.
I bought the PC in 2021 and never had issues until I downloaded runescape a few weeks ago. The first time I tried playing it, the crash occurred, and now it occurs for every game. Game clients and loading screens are fine, but once I get to anything rendered, it crashes instantly, no matter how undemanding the game. Temps are quite low since it happens before anything graphically intensive can happen.
I've tried:
-
Updating drivers (GPU and CPU)
-
Updating BIOS
-
Upgrading to Windows 11
-
Tweaking dozens of settings in the Nvidia control panel based on other threads
-
Undervolting/clocking in MSI afterburner
-
Reducing power limit in MSI afterburner
-
Removing Microsoft GameInput
-
Checked power pins going into GPU
-
I've tried checking the connection from the GPU to the motherboard, but the screw in the GPU bracket/mount thing holding it in is so tight I'm having issues unscrewing it without stripping the screw.
-
I was wondering if anyone had ideas of what might be going on and if anything else might be worth trying. The GPU might just be dead, but the timing of it occurring with the very first play of runescape.
Context: I installed the BIOS onto my USB flash drive, then turned the computer off and performed the BIOS update using Win + B and pressing the power button. The BIOS screen shows up (though it's a CLI black screen, not the usual blue HP screen I see when performing a BIOS update). After the BIOS update finishes, it restarts the laptop, and the screen becomes blank, but the laptop is running I can hear the fan running.
What I have tried but doesn't work:
Win + B or Win + V then pressing the power button (removed all attachments from the laptop)
Using the same USB that has the BIOS installed and performing Win + B then pressing the power button
Holding and pressing the power button for 1 minute then starting the laptop
Removing the battery from the laptop, plugging the AC adapter into the laptop, and performing the solutions I tried above.
Nothing works. Strangely this behavior seems to happen when I do BIOS update. I have had this issue before but not sure or remember what fixed the problem.
Model: HP Omen 16
Downloaded new bios and used the installer to install it. Now my pc turns on but nothing gets powered my screen won't turn on and keyboard won't light up.
I woke up today to this issue. When I turn the PC on, it doesn't give me anything on either of my monitors or even my TV. On top of that, none of my USBs are receiving power and my RGB appears to be stuck on white.
I looked around the subreddit and tried doing this already
-
Unplugged and held the power button down for 30 secs to cycle power out
-
Reseated RAM
-
Unplugged the GPU from the motherboard and plugged it back in
I've run out of ideas to try and get anything to show on screen so I can go from there. Any ideas? I appreciate it 🙏
