Do your own research and measurements. They know how to use the program, but they are not familar with the actual process of taking that plan and building it. They did not take into account the space for cleats and railing, so make sure you give wiggle room on each cabinet run. We are finishing up on our installation now and waiting on countertops. Another piece of advice: don't be married to the plan, we changed our plan hall way through instalation, and it turned out so much better. You can return anything you end up not using. I used the online planning meeting ikea offers last week to order my pax wardrobe for my walk in closet. The planner was nice and we got a good design going. The problem was the terrible follow up. Part of my order was on back order so planner told me to pay for what’s available now and then she would be able to put me on a waitlist for the remaining products. She said buying today was the only way to be added to a waitlist. She also said she would follow up with me and send me the full shopping list. Week goes by and zero follow up. After three hours with ikea customer service they finally tell me I’m not on any wait list and the planner marked my project as completed. So, just be careful with anything that requires the planner to help you past designing the product/space as you need. They aren’t good with their word and there’s no way to directly reach the same planner again.

IKEA's employee couldn't get into my plan link that I'd sent her. She told me they always try this first, but it frequently doesn't work. So, I ended up copying and pasting some of the images I'd created in my schematic from the planner. With all of these technology problems, my expectations were't too high. Hi everyone
I was going to book a online wardrobe planning appointment as want to get a corner wardrobe for a room in the house and wanted to see what options were available.
A friend of mine mentioned when he used this option he reckoned the quote he got back from the Ikea salesperson was higher compared to buying it online yourself but hes not 100% sure, does that sound right?
I'm just thinking if theres a price difference I may try design / buy it myself on the Ikea website instead.

It’s the same price but they’ll likely suggest stuff you haven’t thought of to maximise your space for your needs.

Only thing I can think of is the online planner automatically adds in add ons like lights and drawers, etc which bump up the costs. But if you pick it yourself you just get the bare essentials / what you decide you need.

I am located in the US and looking to create DIY built ins using the Sektion line or possibly the Besta line. I would really like to book a consultation to make sure I'm getting everything right. I'd even be willing to pay for the appointment.
Unfortunately there is nothing available at my local IKEA (Bolingbrook, IL) when I choose office or living room appointments. When I selection the kitchen option I am able to book a free consultation any day this month. Am I able to book a kitchen consultation since I'm interested in using the Sektion line? Will they be able to help me since I need to incorporate book cases as well?
Any insight is greatly appreciated!

The SEKTION consulations will be handled by the kitchen department but any BESTÅ consultation will be handled by a different department, the living room sales team. Each sales team will usually only be able to assist you in their respective category. I suggest you make attend a SEKTION appointment first. If the planning requires to include just some BESTÅ components, the sales agent can insert some place holders into the planning tool with approximate dimensions. This is standard procedure at least in most IKEA stores in Germany and probably the same in the US. Adress the configuration of BESTÅ in a separate appointment, if necessary. BTW: There might be remote planning available, giving you more appointment options to choose from.

They might not be able to tell you a lot about the bookcases depending on who you get. But otherwise yes, it doesn't matter what room you're putting it in. Also keep in mind that a consultation is just a consultation, it's there to answer questions about the kitchen systems and help you make decisions on what you want. If you want any planning to get done you need to book a planning appointment.
