r/ikeahacks on Reddit: Is a DIY KALLAX bed fram sturdy enough to last a long time?
October 20, 2022 -

I've been seeing videos on tiktok of people making bed frames out of the Ikea KALLAX storage units. Most popular is this one by Alasia Ellis https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRQpn1AA/

I was interested in making one of these beds myself for my small room but I have to wonder if the KALLAX will be sturdy enough to handle a mattress and the weight of an entire person or two and other activities 👀

I'd love some advice or opinions on this before I decide I'd like to do this myself

Note: I bought a hamnes daybed recently that I built that when I tried it out it felt very unsecure and a few slacks even cracked from an hour of laying on... so I'm a little wary in general now when looking at ikea furniture or storage for everyday use.
