The names are very confusing. Here the main clue is in the last letter - P indicates that performance is the focus while U stands for low power draw (ultra-efficient or whatever their marketing calls it). All components of the name influence what to expect of it, and as you found in this example the suffix can trump the "brand modifier" (i5, i7) when it comes to performance comparison. As such yeah, if performance is your only goal the only reliable source of comparison is tests and benchmarks. More on reddit.com

You got Intel's T wrong. It's not low power, it's power limited. Basically, same thing as non-T, but BIOS will use lower power limits. These are not more efficient than non-T. It's a common myth over on r/homelab
