April 3, 2025Waterproofing (IP68) my own LED strips - what silicone sealant to use?
A couple options for water proofing LEDs: buy IP65 strips, these have a clear gel like covering on the top side of the strip only buy IP67 strips, these are LEDS encased in a thin clear silicone sleeve Make your own IP68 strips like I did: https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Channel-Enclosed-Waterproof-Installation/dp/B07YXM4FFP/ The LEDs will fit inside these thicker strips (style S0513) and then you can seal up both ends with silicone sealant. I use this method on LEDs that are mounted on a PEV that sees significant amounts of road spray and puddle splashing, LEDs still going strong after substantial usage. They also act as a diffuser, which I find to provide a much better viewing experience by preventing glare and bright points, not sure if the same will apply to your situation. I highly recommend AP107 LEDs for anything artsy, the finer grained brightness levels and faster refresh rate are much easier on the eyes. More on reddit.com

July 9, 2023Led strip lighting for sauna. Is IP67 rated lighting good enough or do we need to use IP68 rating? I’d like to run warm strip lighting behind the benches.
I'm not an expert but IP rating is for dust and water, and my guess is IP67 or even IP65 would be fine after looking at the specs with my stale electrical engineering degree. The more important thing is not part of the IP spec - the operating temp. I’m looking for some IP68 rated WLED compatible lights for a waterfall/stream I’m creating.
I don’t need too many but ideally bright enough to light up some pools and it cascades down. The water would be on average 10cm deep.
I do have a large number of Govee permanent outdoor lights left over from covering my house but they are only IP67 - do you think they will survive being in permanent water?

Some ideas. Either direct (protected strip water on it - but I think you'll see pixels) and indirect (the LED strip is somewhere else, you channel light in a diffused manner into the water). You could use clear tubing, fish a wire to pull a strip inside.
