First and foremost, you will want a grip. The Apple Pencil is just too slim to use for drawing extensively. I have used 3rd party grips but the caveat is you have to remove for charging unless you don’t have a case on the iPad itself (excluding folio cases). I am using the paperlike grip, The groove is deep enough to retain double tap and squeeze gestures and I was able to still charge my pencil with a case on. For cases you are going to want cases that have low angles (25 degrees or less). I recommend: Zugu, ESR magnetic Shift, and Tomtoc Vertical (this one will be just a folio without a case). I have used all 3 and decided to stick with the Tomtoc as I never drop my iPad and it’s covered by AppleCare anyway. Note that if you choose to go with Zugu, you will have to remove the pencil grip to charge every time since the pencil holder does not have room. Screen Protector, I am using the ESR paperfeel (not the magnetic version). It feels great and loving it so far. I think any other matte screen protectors will work similarly, even the cheaper ones. Extras: If you want a more tactile feedback, consider looking into the paperlike pencil tips. They are harder than the soft ones that come on the Apple Pencil. I have an ipad pro and it meets my needs and then some, but also making art is my job so it made sense to invest. if she’s a beginner, a lesser model or even refurbished one will work just fine. I think this is probably obvious but it wasn’t in your post so I thought i’d mention it, you need an apple pencil as well and they don’t come with the ipad, they’re purchased separately.
