Null Island / Myst Island
I knew about the 'existence' of null island (after a stint of researching phantom islands a few years ago), but had no idea that people had been using Myst island's layout as a stand-in for it. Sure enough, if you do an image search for 'null island' there's a lot of landforms that are obvious recreations of Myst island, and even a few images of Myst island itself. When you think about it, it's fitting that Myst island should become Earth's own ' Great Zero '. More on reddit.com

TIL that there is a fictional island in the South Atlantic, off the west coast of Africa called 'Null Island'. Although it doesn't exist in reality, it serves as an error trap for map systems. Map enthusiasts have given the island its own history, geography and even flag.
Keep believing we don't exist foolish non-nullians, keep believing. We shall soon see who doesn't exist. More on reddit.com

TIL of Null Island, a fictional island represented by a buoy at coordinates 0,0; the point which the equator meets the prime meridian. Its used to help prevent and remedy navigational errors.

How do they anchor the buoy at that depth? Is it really tethered to the sea floor?

Null Island Is a Fake Island Where the Prime Meridian and Equator Meet
August 7, 2025 - A small, tropical purgatory, far away from anywhere that matters, home to uncountable damaged and incomplete data points, stranded until they are fixed or erased.
