r/learnprogramming on Reddit: Best list of java commands/methods/symbols for beginner?
September 9, 2015 -
Just learning and am watching two different video tutorials on java. Is therre a list of commands/symbols that would allow me to play around when I am not following these courses/lessons? Only real "command" I know is the system.print one and a few others.

You might want to look at a "Java Cheat Sheet". Some examples: http://introcs.cs.princeton.edu/java/11cheatsheet/ http://mindprod.com/jgloss/jcheat.html Then you can look at the standard library, that's a set of classes & methods that allow you to do thing like System.out.println(). It's included by default. http://introcs.cs.princeton.edu/java/stdlib/ http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10868825/where-can-i-find-a-list-of-the-java-standard-libraries Then you can have a look at the whole set of APIs provided with Java. That thing is HUGE. Impossible to present in a few lines. Here is a link to the offical doc that shortly explains the role of each part of the API. Don't be afraid if you don't understand it all, you can do plenty of interesting things using only a few parts: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/overview-summary.html

Buy or borrow a beginner level Java book instead. You'll learn the syntax and how it's used. Here's a list, someone here might be able to suggest which ones. Sign up for an online course too. Here's a popular one. Simply learning syntax won't do you any good.

I generated it with this plain bruteforce:
Use with AIimport java.awt.event.KeyEvent;
import java.lang.reflect.Field;
import java.lang.reflect.Modifier;
import java.util.*;
public class Test {
public static void main(String[] a) {
for(int i = 0; i < 1000000; ++i) {
String text = java.awt.event.KeyEvent.getKeyText(i);
if(!text.contains("Unknown keyCode: ")) {
System.out.println("" + i + " -- " + text);
}
}
}
}
I have excluded the "unknown" codes.

KeyEvent class has static fields with these values.
For example, KeyEvent.VK_A represent "A" key.
To get the fields names you can use reflection:
Use with AIField[] fields = java.awt.event.KeyEvent.class.getDeclaredFields();
for (Field f : fields) {
if (Modifier.isStatic(f.getModifiers())) {
System.out.println(f.getName());
}
}

A simple list interface ยท LinkedList. Similar to the LinkedList developed in class. Does not contain all the methods you would expect of a LinkedList. Also implements the iterator remove method in O(N) time. An O(1) time remove method is possible. UnsortedHashSet - An unsorted set that uses a hashtable with closed address hashing to store values. Currently only the add method is implemented. UnsortedSetTest - A method to compare Java's TreeSet and HashSet to the BianrySearchTree, UnsortedSet, and UnsortedHashSet classes developed in class.
