Pay
General salary…
JCP gives their hiring managers a wage range and it is up to that manager’s discretion what to offer within that range. This is typically based on relevant experience. The range varies greatly based on location (For example, Los Angeles’ range will be significantly higher than PodunkNowhere Midwestville). You can use tools like Glassdoor to get a general idea of what that range might look like for your area. I’d get an idea of what you want wage wise, increase it a little bit, and go to the interview. When they ask about pay, tell them you are hoping to be at (for example) $17 per hour but you can be flexible for the right position. Do not ever give out your rock bottom walk away number or that’s the highest offer they will ever give you. Remember that interviewing is never a bad idea: even a terrible interview is good practice. And you are never obligated to accept a position. If they come back and tell you that $12 is the best they can do, then tell them that you appreciate the opportunity but that won’t meet your salary needs right now and tell them you would certainly be interested in the future if the compensation package changes.
