Just got a new dutch oven, and it looks like there's a thin spot in the enamel. The spot is also raised. It feels like it will be a problem long term, but their support is calling it a "natural variance". Should I be worried?

Just return it.

Advice on Getting a Dutch Oven
I don't have experience with the Milo, but I would find it hard to justify spending that much on a Chinese-made Dutch oven when a similar Chinese-made Lodge can be had for $40 less. There are also even cheaper options, like Amazon's "Basics" line for under $50, and no-names available at Walmart and Target. Consensus seems to be that the French ones (Le Crueset and Staub) are lighter (debatable whether or not that's a good thing re:heat retention), have better-fitting lids, and have harder/thicker enamel coating. The coating durability will be the most critical aspect but with reasonable care any should last a long time. There's also the name-brand appeal, which isn't worth nothing, if you like having a fancy kitchen. If Chinese Dutch ovens (Lodge, Amazon, Milo) are like most other Chinese-made products, they will all probably be about the same -- with variance from one individual piece to another being greater on average than the variance from one brand to another. Milo certainly has the flashiest, most trendy web site. If you want to start cooking right away, grab a cheap one, and keep saving for the Crueset. Heck, you could get two Lodges of different sizes for the price of the Milo, and still not put a very big dent into your Crueset savings fund. I suspect that after using them for a while, the Crueset will be harder to justify. More on reddit.com

Dutch Oven recommendation for beginner
Do not buy Our Place of anything. I had the absolute worst experience with their Everything Pan. From sending the wrong color, the coating coming off after 3 months, paint chipping, and it's not as useful as they make it out to be. Not ergonomic in the least. I fought with customer service for months - worst bunch of people ever. Kept dropping the ball, bait and switching me, ignoring my messages, making promises they couldn't keep. Tons of people were as pissed off as I was. I'd assume all their cookware is pretty similar. If you can afford Le Creuset or Staub, do that. I have both and they are wonderful to work with, though obviously pretty darn heavy. Lodge is great but in a different category - not high end, but a workhorse too. More on reddit.com

Purchasing new cookware
I cook with Lodge cast iron skillets, a mix of All Clad and Cuisinart stainless steel pots and pans, and Le Creuset Dutch ovens. Cast iron and stainless do have a bit of a learning curve when you first start cooking with them. If you’re cooking on 7/10 for medium high heat, you’ll need to lower it to 3/10 when using either kind. And preheat for several minutes prior to cooking, then add your oil/butter. It takes some practice, but I make eggs nearly every morning and they don’t stick. More on reddit.com

I Tried the Dutch Oven That’s Prettier and Cheaper than a Le Creuset or Staub
March 10, 2021 - They can go in the oven or on the stove, work with any kind of burner (even induction burners!), are easy enough to clean with a little elbow grease, and they look pretty enough you won’t want to put them away. What’s not to love, right? ... Except, of course, the giant price tag. With top-of-the-line enameled cast iron Dutch ovens costing more than $300, they’re not exactly budget-friendly.

April 29, 2022 -

Mostly what the post title says. I got this from Kana so it's not a cheap dutch oven - I would expect the enamel to be pristine. I think part of my annoyance comes from the fact that I spent a lot of money on this and I feel I did not get a quality product.
This spot is on the cooking surface and I'm concerned the enamel is gonna chip faster with this imperfection. Given that is raised, I think it will get more abuse, and it looks to my untrained eye like the enamel is thinner here. I'm not even sure if it's fully sealed in this area.
Am I being unreasonable? Are my concerns unfounded? I want to check before I push back.

Imgur link - it says it's mature, but it's not. I just don't want to make an imgur account, and not sure how else to post a pic.

Best Dutch Ovens for Braising, Baking, and Beyond (2025) | Bon Appétit
November 19, 2025 - It’s about a pound lighter than the comparably sized Le Creuset, which means it can heat up and cool down a bit quicker, but the thinner cast iron won't retain heat quite as well either. If you want a budget option and like the modern look (or you really want a moderately priced Dutch oven with a gold-toned knob), the Milo by Kana is a good choice.

January 10, 2019 -

Hello all, I am in the market for a Dutch oven and am looking for opinions. Currently I am slowly saving up for a Le Crueset one, but it's a big price tag. I stumbled across Milo Dutch ovens which aims to compete with brands like Le Crueset for a much more affordable price. What are people's experiences with Milo and is worth getting instead of continuing to safe up for a Le Crueset?

I have a lodge and I love it, I think the only big difference between lodge and the French ones is how large the flat area is at the bottom of the dish, depends on how much browning you need to do, etc
