I’ve done some research and know the main differences between the two keyboards, but I’m not sure which one to go for. I don’t really care about QMK support at all. My plan is to either buy a K2v2 hot swap white backlit for £65, get a keycap set for £30-40 and spend around £30 on some kailh jades or go for the k2 pro aluminium for £110, keep stock keycaps (us version so pbt) and get the jades, so roughly the same price. Are the supposed upgrades of the k2 pro like the silicon and foam and stabs worth it over the k2v2, where I would pick my own keycaps up? Thanks!
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to give everyone an honest perspective of the Keychron v2 (KV2) keyboard. Like you, I went down a rabbit hole of mechanical keyboards because I was fed up with the original one I bought. I also did not know much about them, only a limited knowledge for gaming purposes. However, my life has shifted gears and I can't simply use my keyboard for just gaming. Therefore, I needed to find a board that allowed me the flexibility to switch between multiple devices simultaneously with EASE.
I bought two boards together, I had heard mix reviews and I wanted to try them both. The first board I bought was an Anne Pro 2 (AP2). I reluctantly bought this Keychron v2, but didn't have high hopes for it at all. In fact, I regretted buying the board and tried to cancel the item before it shipped. When I received the AP2 I was in love, 60%, compact and it was glorious. The software was superb, and the keys felt amazing. I thought, this is it, I found the perfect board. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I went through hours of troubleshooting of trying to get the AP2 to switch between multiple devices (wireless/wired). Nothing worked, and please forgive me, my intentions are not to shit on the AP2. However, I think it is critical to understand what your needs are and if the board can deliver those needs. Nevertheless, I tried to get it to work and it did not.
Here comes the kicker, when I received the KV2 board, I was hesitant. The keys look bland and a high pitch clacky sound but I really enjoyed the aluminum frame. I also was a bit torn between 60% and 75%, but I am so glad I went with the 75%. The reason I give such high praise to this board, is for a couple of reasons. The first reason, and what is most important to me was flexibility and the ability to switch between devices (wired/wireless) with ease. I can switch between two laptops (wireless) and my personal PC (wired) within a second, no hiccups. Secondly, once I added new keycaps (white PBT pudding) with o-rings, and the lego keys, the board became alive to me. It was exactly what I wanted, and delivers the perfect experience as a consumer of the product.
With that, the one thing I hope and wish is that Keychron would build a software similar to AP2 while maintaining this quality of a product. I cannot speak as an enthusiast, I am sure there are other boards with a much higher build quality. But this has been picture perfect in all aspects for me.
I work in the banking industry, therefore sitting on my ass, typing and working from home has been my life for the better part of 3 months. I do travel from branch to branch or location to location, and I am easily able to pull this bad boy out and get my work done. Oh and of course people give me shit for my nerdy toy, but I could careless. Lastly, I also have been learning Linux, Python and SQL on the side as a hobby and being able to switch from scrap personal laptop breaking the OS, to gaming on Windows and typing up reports for work has been nothing short of amazing. I am all about functionality!
Last of the lastly, I changed my wireless mouse (Rival 710) for a Razer Viper Wireless and I am shocked at the superior feeling of a lightweight wireless mouse. I felt as if I have lived under a rock my whole life. Anyways, if you made it this far, feast your eyes on my KV2!
Keychron v2, white PBT key puddings, lego keys.Love hearing people's different perspectives! I ordered the Keychron K2 a couple of weeks ago, Gateron Brown switches and kept the keycaps it came with. Loving it so far.
I had a high-pitched ping coming from the spacebar, used some Super Lube on a couple spots and its working like a dream - I wonder whether or not that's what you were hearing before you swapped out the keycaps?
Personally, I am still loving this keyboard as of now! Haven't really found any problems yet.
