What’re the going linear feet in your area for cabs: lowers and uppers?
How do you price according to type of wood/finish? Also how do you price really advanced details spec’d by architect?

In my experience LF pricing (top down pricing) is a disaster for more detailed cabinet work. You need to use a more detailed bottom up pricing (cost +) pricing model for those types of applications.

Linear footage is the way to go. Toronto area pricing high end finished custom cabinetry - 8 foot ceiling starts at 1200 a foot. 10 foot ceilings I’m pricing at 1500-1600 a foot. Veneer finishes I add 5% and if the client wants to upgrade from hard rock maple melamine to ply or some linen we add 5% as well. All my drawers are solid maple dovetail

New cabinets just installed. Cost was $22k. Imperfections from both installers and from the factory. Being too picky?
Hard to know here but I install a lot of cabinets in new homes from many different manufacturer and all are on the affordable end (aka not custom). Some of these issues seem like they could be from the install but I'll be honest ......you don't get much for what you pay for with cabinets these days. The fit and finish on many of the cabinets I've installed is bad. Lots of damage out of the box, warped doors, blotchy paint , poor construction, warped face frames. Hard to know what in this picture is from poor install/handling and what was like that on arrival. However when I unbox cabinets I inspect them all over and photograph and text pictures of any damage or oddities to the GC and cabinet supplier before I install. In the case I do mess something up I usually fix it at at the end as well as give the cabinet a quick clean. This kind of thing should be what happens regardless of what you paid for the cabinets or to install them. More on reddit.com
How much do custom cabinets “really” cost?
4.5 baths for 40K is actually a price in the ball park. sure you can do your whole house from ikea for half that, but you will be building it and installing it yourself. if you are a carpenter and have all the tools, sure its easy to build yourself, but I wouldnt down play the cost and skill it takes to make custom cabinetry. it is a cost to the house, it is a lot of material and labour. The markup is probably in the range of 20-30% which is pretty average for trades. go with custom and its a simple stress free process, go Ikea, and you will be having a pain in the ass, but if you want to put sweat equity into the build to save money then thats okay too. you get what you pay for. is buying kitchen cabinets from IKEA most cost efficient?
I’ve done four IKEA kitchens now. I can’t believe that’s true, but here we are… I love the boxes and the inserts and the flexibility of the pieces. That being said, a few caveats: I would recommend getting white doors only, as we have very visible white gaps behind our blue doors and we’re now trying to prime and paint the boxes to match the doors (eye roll). The first three kitchens had white doors. In our third kitchen, we got custom (white) doors from Scherr’s, which was a great choice and elevated the look. That was a good call. We also had a situation where the whole kitchen was built, but one door was on a mysterious back order so it was about three months without one corner cabinet door. Islands can be tricky - just keep that in mind if it’s relevant to you. Also, would highly recommend building your kitchen with one planner then reviewing with a different one to get two sets of eyes on it. More on reddit.com
Are custom cabinets worth the money?
Absolutely! Custom cabinets are like having a special, made-to-measure outfit for your kitchen. They may cost a bit more, but the perfect fit and long-lasting quality make them totally worth the investment.

r/Homebuilding on Reddit: Basic small kitchen cabinet cost

I’m planning on building a new house and am trying to get an idea of the kitchen cabinet cost. I made the pictured design on the Lowe’s website and it shows a quote of around $16,000 to $20,000 for just the cabinets. Is this price accurate for such a small kitchen? This is the material cost, no labor!
Has anyone done a compact kitchen like this - curious about the total cost.

cabinets from lowe’s are typically made by a high volume cabinet manufacturer like say Kraftmade, which does put out a good cabinet but still has that “assembly line” feel to me. (ironically I used to live near the Kraftmade factory in Middlefield OH) I recently did a build in TN using a small custom cabinet manufacturer which included them stopping out once before hand, then quoting me a price, then stopping out again to measure after drywall, then bringing the cabinets to install them. Ironically the kitchen looked similar to your pic. Their price was $29K and it also included a locker system for the mudroom as well as the 9’ long bathroom vanity with a center tower. I’ve heard of a lot of stupid prices out there where people who don’t shop around are being taken advantage of. here is the kitchen: kitchen Another story I have about Lowe’s is they quoted the cabinets for my personal residence in 2017 at $55K. I was able to find a cabinet maker to do them for 27K. Lowe’s doesn’t make cabinets, they are simply a middle man tacking on extra profit for themselves.
