Just for fun, here are the things that I think will define the 2020-2025 era in kitchens. (Not that they will necessarily feel trendy or dated in the future, just that they are really "in" now.) I am sure I forgot some things and got some things wrong, so feel free to add your own! Cabinets and storage: grey paint, pale oak cabinets, extra narrow Shaker doors, pastel English farmhouse aesthetic (especially with no toe-kicks and furniture-like details), coastal blue, sage green, having a 2nd messy kitchen, walk in pantry hidden behind cabinet doors, acoustic slat panels on islands, a full wall of tall cabinets, no curves or angles, brutalist black and grey modern aesthetic, no idea what it's called but the narrow matching shelf directly on top of the backsplash. Floors: LVP everywhere, ripping out hardwood for LVP, grey flooring of all kinds. Appliances: White stainless, fridges with screens, fridges with see-through windows, air fry mode, 3rd rack dishwashers, industrial looking stainless vent hoods. Lighting: Free-form swirly LED shapes, wall sconces in unusual places, industrial aesthetic, $20 multipacks of battery operated stick-up lights from Amazon, under cabinet bare LED strips with very prominent dots, LED strips under the countertop. Backsplash: zellige tile, high gloss monochrome porcelain tile in general, water jet mosaics, beadboard, white-and-grey marble tiles in all sorts of shapes, Bedrosians Cloe, matching the quartz backsplash to countertops. Countertops: Hundreds of different kinds of white quartz with prominent grey veining, waterfall edges on islands.
