Running the engine on partial choke will cause extra heat which is not good. Mike ... Mike, Your correct on the pump. It does have 3 lines and it seems to be vacuum. I was wondering if there was anyway to verify the pump had the correct vacuum or if there is a way to determine for sure the pump has failed. I took the cover off the pump and it looks like the diaphram is intact. What I didn't understand is the last time I changed the fuel filter there was gas up to it from the tank line.

One possibility is that the fuel solenoid located under the carburetor may be sticking, or the wires may have come off. This would prevent fuel from entering the engine, although it can still reach the carburetor.

Conclusion: The Kohler fuel pump, though a relatively simple component, plays an indispensable role in ensuring your engine runs reliably. Recognizing symptoms of wear or failure like hard starting, engine stalling, power loss, or visible fuel leaks allows for timely intervention. Basic tests like the gravity feed output check and flow rate measurement help confirm pump problems. February 12, 2020 -

I replaced the spark plug, air filter, fuel pump, and carburetor on my engine. I also drained the old ethonal gas and have the tank half full with ethonal-free gas. The motor will not stay running. I can take the fuel pump off and pump some gas to the carb, reattach the pump and pull the chord. The motor turns over and runs for a second or 2 then shuts off. I can keep the motor running by spraying starter fluid but once I stop that, the motor dies.

I'm no small engine expert, but I feel I have everything installed correctly. Do I need to adjust a new carburetor?

r/smallengines on Reddit: Kohler CH23 fuel delivery issue?
October 19, 2022 -

My dad has a Lincoln Ranger 250 GXT welder that has a Kohler CH23S engine. This was his personal welder and saw extremely limited use, even less use since he retired about a decade ago. He tried to start it up a few months ago and couldn’t get it to run. He ended up draining the tank, cleaned the fuel lines, cleaned the carb, and replaced the fuel pump…still nothing.

From what he is describing to me, it has a manual fuel pump that uses some sort of arm that gores through the valve cover and is operated by the valve movement (or rocker arm?). He thinks this is the area that is the source of the problem because even after the new fuel pump, gas still isn’t getting to the carb.

Any ideas/suggestions as to why the new fuel pump isn’t working?
