NEVER EVER EVER order cabinets from Lowes, especially Kraftmaid.
We went to Lowes a few times in April to get our kitchen designed. We opted for Kraftmaid cabinets because we knew others who had them and they were supposed to be high quality. The designer at Lowes seemed knowledgeable but spoke to us like we knew cabinets. She didn't talk us through overlays, designs, nothing...just "what do you want to go with?" She was also the only kitchen designer there which would lead to further problems in the future.
We also visited a local distributor who had several experienced designers and were the largest local supplier of Kraftmaid. Pricing was comparable between the two so we decided on Lowes because if something were to go wrong, they'd surely help us out, right? Dead wrong.
We get the cabinets 4 weeks later, 13 of the 26 doors are damaged. Sent pics to our Lowes lady, she said these were merely a result of the wood maturing or whatever. They literally looked like someone took a screwdriver and scratched the cabinets multiple times. We pushed back, Lowes said kraftmaid rep would send a 1time replacement order. Lowes lady said kraftmaid rep might want to look at the doors, I said please do and you can see the rela damage since the pictures don't describe it well enough.
Get the 13 doors 4 weeks later, 3 now have the same problem. Email Lowes again, they push back, round and round and threats by us, they agree to send 3 more doors. I told Lowes lady to have the rep come out and look at the 16 doors themselves but she said it's OK. In the meantime, our cabinet installer looked at the doors and said it's not the wood, it's a result of poor primer and paint application so it's a quality issue. Meantime, after being delayed over a month on the install, we decide to go ahead and do it and replace the 3 doors ourselves.
Prior to the install, I told the installer that the pantry is the same height as our ceiling but Lowes lady said we could simply take the base out and build a base to set the pantry on, he said no biggie he'd done that before. During the install, he informs us that the base doesn't come off and he would need to cut it off, build a different base and do more work to it. He said this would normally cost us 300 but since I knew him he said he wouldn't charge us. Also, 1 cabinet came with the doors off so he had to mount them separately. This would've been an extra 50 bucks but again, no cost to us.
Several emails later, Lowes sends us out tracking for the 3 replacement doors. Doors arrive a day late, whatever, and I put 1 door up to realize that they are the WRONG SIZE. 2 of the 3 doors are 1 inch short and no other doors in our kitchen have that size. So my wife calls, speaks to a manager who has no clue what's going on and then says he has to have our designer contact kraftmaid. We understand it's a kraftmaid issue but the Lowes lady pushes back on us and and simply doesn't care anymore now that she's fulfilled our order.
Now we wait for someone to contact us again about our 3 doors. We are beyond livid and disappointed. Looking back, I wish we had gone with that local distributor or a different local company that does their own cabinets or even the Amish. We thought Lowes would help us because they're a national company and customer service would mean more to them...wrong again.
And our kitchen drama continues...
