The most important characteristics of a laptop are battery life ( power efficiency) and screen quality. That is what sells ( non apple ) clamshells. All the other crap they test in various reviews are mostly meaningless to the actual user. There is a very small %age of the market for high power/perf laptops and even smaller market for gaming. Most of the reason a laptop is “slow” is bloatware and has nothing to do with the cpu choice anyway. And Intel is already “beating” AMD in laptop cpu sales, by a substantial margin. People incorrectly assume AMD has most of the market share in all segments because of the very noisy and super-biased gaming reviewers, who mostly focus on $3000+ gaming desktop builds. No, thats a bad deal. The "good" 14" in my opinion are the the T480 (4c, extremely long battery life, you can fit FHD 400nit, WQHD or even 4k panels), T490 (less battery life than the T480 but smaller, thinner, lighter), T14 G1 AMD (offers significantly more performance that still holds up to this day but mediocre battery life), T14 G2/G3/G4 AMD (extremely good performance and power efficiency) and T14 G2 Intel (cheapest T14 that offers AV1-Decoding [Codec used by Netflix, Youtube and probably more] if you need long battery life while watching videos but significantly less performance than their AMD counterpart). The T14 G1 intel offers basically nothing that you cannot get cheaper or better, the T14 G3 Intel has good single-core performance but is pricy and has insane power consumption (leading to throttling, high fan noise and low battery life), the T14 G4 Intel is better than the G3 but AMD is still better and cheaper More on reddit.com

Don't pay more for the older model. The new one has RAM on SODIMMs (not soldered). The T14 gen 5 is a great choice for most use cases, but beware that the battery life isn't great (and definitely get the larger battery of the two options). The AMD model has an OLED option that looks great but eats battery even more (so consider your intended uses before ordering that one).
