In 2018, as a result of the lawsuits, they updated the linear compressor to a supposedly updated, but still problematic, linear compressor design. and in 2022 they began rolling out models with a standard (not linear) compressor. LG is still pretty proud of that linear compressor so you will see "inverter linear" somewhere on the control panel if it has it. If it says "smart inverter", You most likely have the new "old school" compressor. If you don't see this label at all, What's your model number? I can check. More on reddit.com

Our LG french door refrigerator stopped cooling this past Sunday. The fridge section is about 55 degrees F and not sure on the freezer temp, but its not freezing. Model#: LMXS30776S
The fridge is only 5 years old. We had a appliance repair guy out here and provided a estimate of $1800 for the compressor replacement. Does that price seem fair? Never thought it would be that high!
