Put the tv on the short wall at the bottom of the picture. Put the coffee table and couch in front of it, instead of putting the couch against a wall. Personally, I'd put the bar in front of the large window, and put the desk in front of the small one on the short wall at the top of the picture, but I know that's not everybody's preference. No matter what, getting the couch off of the wall will help break this room into more living spaces. More on reddit.com

The asymmetrical seating + windows and table in the middle of the room are fairly big negatives in terms of acoustic potential. I would do a single wide couch as your first row, and add a second row if needed. And also get rid of the window closest to the screen. If that is not possible, I would flip the whole room 90 degrees, that way the extra seats can be pushed off to the sides. As far as gear goes, you can do much better than 5.1.2 with a $20K budget. Hell, you could do a good 7.2.4 for less than half that. For the room itself, I would strongly recommend double layer walls, and solid core door. That will reduce the noise leakage substantially, especially with in-wall speakers, which allow sound to leak through the first wall layer. 12x22ft is plenty of space, but height is an important factor as well. If you can, 10ft ceilings are noticeably better than 8ft ceilings in my experience. The extra height makes adding the second seating row easier, gives your Atmos channels more separation from the ear level channels, and lessens the low frequency problems. More on reddit.com
