Hi All, I just read this, and it looks like Google is taking spaces into account.
Meanwhile, your meta description length should be kept descriptive and between 150 and 160 characters for optimal length, and this includes spaces.
A Home page title I have has 159 characters, but Google is only showing 141 of them.
Are you all seeing this too? When has this started?

These are guidelines and best practices, not requirements. Is it wrong/bad to exceed these limits? Not necessarily. It’s that the most optimized titles and descriptions will adhere to those guidelines. That is part of “optimization”. Google also changes these elements automatically to fit search terms or intent, at times. So searchers may not even necessarily see the words you provided. That said, put your keywords as close to the beginning as possible and make sure that the title and description are related to the pages content. More on reddit.com

Your approach is totally fine. It's certainly something that doesn't matter for ranking, but if you want a perfect metha description to maximize CTR in a given position and have already optimized the stuff really relevant for rankings, sure. From an agency perpective, we love to do it if a client wants this level of perfection, I mean it's paid hours for doing all this manually, but from an effort vs effect perpective, it's certainly nothing I'd priorize.
