For some reason it’s stuck at 57 degrees and the ez debug lights for vga and boot are on. It’s been like this for 10min. I also only did this update because I was having problems with my cpu temps and solved the thermal and pump issues.
Hi, I have a MPG B550 GAMING PLUS (MS-7C56) which I cannot get to take a bios update. I suspect this is because it is a prebuilt computer, and they have their own version of bios. I am trying to update bios because I have bought a new CPU, an AMD Ryzen 7 5700x3D.
Let me preface this by saying I have never messed around in bios before. There is a reason I have a prebuilt. Haha.
The current version of BIOS I am on is listed as E7C56AKB.1K5 I have tried updating the bios normally - downloading latest not in beta version for my specific motherboard, extracting and placing the file in the root directory of a 32gb USB newly formatted to FAT32. I have tried using the flash bios usb port on the motherboard, and multiple other usb ports. I tried using the bios flash button on the motherboard. I have also tried using rufus to format usb to FAT32, non-bootable. Renaming the update file to MSI.ROM did not work either.
When trying to use forum UEFI Shell flash tool - which seems to be my only option that I have found - it gives me the message «source files missing»
I have sent an email to the company that made my pc (komplett.no) but I am afraid they will take multiple days to answer and I would like this fixed sooner than later.
Is there any way to get the latest update for my board, or force the board to use a normal msi bios? Why won’t uefi flash tool work? Is it a usb issue, mobo issue, or windows issue? And I want to be sure this will work with the new cpu (ryzen7 5700x3D) please.
Thanks for any help. Pictures of bios and what m-flash shows when the bios file is in root directory of usb.
I downloaded the bios update on my flash drive from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z790-P-WIFI/support but when I try and update it in my bios it says "this update is not from MSI" and wont download it. Makes no sense since I got from the MSI website.
Hi , I tried updating my BIOS on my B450 gaming plus max motherboard, only to start crasing windows and applications about 5 minutes afterwards. I tried different versions of BIOS afyer that to solve this problem with the last one being the earliest. Since then The PC won't boot up and will only power on the tower . Also the CPU debug light turns on . Any advice?
Update: I went to a net cafe and downloaded the BIOS file which was compatible with my cpu (AMD Ryzen 5 5600G) renamed it MSI.ROM and flashed BIOS with the flash button . After the pc booted back up I went ahead and updated everything through MSI live update 6 and now everything works like clockwork.
Desperately need to update my bios, consulting my manual and the YouTube video from MSI, my live update 6 app should provide me with the bios update, however I do not have the option to scan or update my bios (YouTube video showed options I do not have in mine).
All I have available is AMD chipset drivers. I am updating that, does that accomplish the same goal or do I need to complete another download to update my bios?
Really confused and frustrated with MSI’s directions here.
I should've Google'd this prior to assuming it'd be fine.
I built my new Z87-G45-based gaming PC a few months ago, and everything has been great. It worked very well, and was very fast. The Fractal R4 case made it all look awesome as well (thanks, r/buildapc.)
With that said, MSI Live Update was installed when I installed the various motherboard drivers. It seemed to work well and helped keep my various drivers up to date.
Today I noticed there was an update to MSI Live Update (forgot the version, it may have been available for a while.) I installed the updated, and the software mentioned that all sorts of stuff had available updates.
I installed them as it recommended, and all of the sudden everything went black. A reboot didn't fix it. Clearing the CMOS didn't fix it.
So -- for those of you who are have this tool -- DO NOT USE IT TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!
Google reveals that this has happened to numerous people.
Just thought I'd share.

Edit -
I should add that this applies to any motherboard manufacturer as well. You should never flash your BIOS in Windows.
Edit #2 -
u/noneabove1182 reports that MSI Live Update messed other stuff up as well.
u/JVista reports similar problems.
I prefer to just not update drivers and/or the BIOS unless there's actually something wrong or broken.
Owner of Z87-G45-Gaming. Confirmed. This happened to me. $45 later my mobo works. Fuck Live Update. When I spoke with MSI Tech Support on the phone the agent was SURPRISED that their live update included a windows BIOS flash utility. He told me and I quote "NEVER, flash BIOS from windows. You should not need to flash BIOS. If you do follow instructions on our website and use a USB stick." I nearly flipped my shit on him. Then I remembered he's probably making $10/hr and hates his life as much as I did when I was working retail. I thanked him and mailed my mobo in for a fix. I had them update the BIOS while they were at it. By the time I had got it back in the mail 2 weeks later a new BIOS was released. *Facepalm
Updated my MSI PRO B650-P WiFi motherboard to the latest BIOS (version: 7D78v1C) and my Windows became corrupted.
None of my troubleshooting attempts have worked. And there are multiple BSOD codes that is being thrown (not all of them are pictured).
Seems like the only option I have left is to soft reset or hard reset the computer or try a different RAM or motherboard.
What should I do?
I have MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC mobo and can't any more update my bios. I downloaded MSI Live Update 6 and tried to update the bios in window mode.

If i choose DOS mode its asking for a USB Stick. I plugged a 2GB stick and MSI Live format my disk and copy the required bios files for me on the stick. Then i go to Bios and press M-FLASH and says that not media found. I looked the USB stick properties and its fat32 2GB and nothing should be wrong. Am i doing something wrong?
Did you correctly copy the bios files onto the USB? It may have been in a format that the bios doesn't recognise?
Its ok i made it manually with FreeDos. MSI Live 6 window mode bios update loads the process in task manager up but its not working and the whole process stuck at "bios is updating" window. Even M-Flash in msi uefi bios not working it says "media not found" : How i did manually then?
