I'm in metro Detroit (zone 6a) and am looking for Michigan/Midwest natives that do well in full shade. There is a bed along the north side of my house that gets zero sun, no matter the time of day or year. I'm transitioning to all natives but don't know what to put here. Suggestions appreciated!!

I’m also in the Metro Detroit area. Here is a great place to start your research: https://www.prairiemoon.com/search.html?Search=shade+plants#/filter:sun_exposure:Shade/filter:ss_midwest:MI/filter:ss_usda_zones_facet:Zone$25206

Can’t go wrong with a bed of wild ginger! Also, as the person above said, my Virginia water leaf have been loving the full shade spot I have them in.. I have them paired with lady ferns, sweet cicely, and various types of moss, my personal fav being the rare club moss. I’m in Grand Rapids and all are native to Kent county, but for a detailed list of what’s native in your county, you can pull an excel spreadsheet of all plants recorded in your county from the U of M herbarium!

My husband and I are planning to turn our yard into a full garden. My grandma had a full front and back yard garden, but now since she has dementia I can't ask her about native plants. I was wondering if anyone could help me with native plants I can research about! Thank you!

Sure! What's your yard situation in terms of existing plants, moisture, and sun exposure? Are there some kinds of plants that you've seen that you liked? What kinds of plants do you like in general? What do you want your garden to do?
