NUT -- Network UPS Tools : "compatibility" ?
It's a measure of how much functionality you'd have using it with a particular UPS. Eaton, TrippLite, APC, Cyberpower tend to be the best supported, with full control of larger UPS's (such as power on/off, initiating tests, enabling/disabling/canceling alarms, etc) and diagnostics through the driver. Others tend to have basic control and some have limited diagnostic data available. The list is far from complete though. More on reddit.com

r/homelab on Reddit: NUT -- Network UPS Tools : "compatibility" ?
November 14, 2021 -

Hello, from that page https://networkupstools.org/acknowledgements.html i see that some brands are 5 stars out of 5 (eaton), whereas some others (apc) are only 3 out of 5.

What does it mean please ? Is it only a compatibility indication for developpers ?

Or also for users ? Does Eaton make features that other UPS can't provide ?

(From what I understood, "EcoControl" makes it so that when there's a shortage, the master (computer) plug cut off the other plugs when it goes down, maybe in order for peripheral machines to not reboot when wall AC is back in the track, while the main computer is not restarted yet... Anyway i'm not interested in such extreme cases)

What other features than "order through USB a clean shutdown of the computer when shortage occurs" can one expects from its UPS ?

TLDR; for the same specs (capacity, warranty, expected lifespan, surge protection, fidelity of the AC signal,...), does the brand matter (feature-wise, NUT-wise) ?
