August 18, 2024HELP: AVH 3500NEX on a 1990s Car (With a Dual brand Single Din already installed)
Have you pulled out the old radio to see what wiring horrors lie behind? If the previous owner didn't butcher the factory harness and used an adapter harness, you can reuse that. Otherwise you're going to be rewiring. There is no dash kit listed for your vehicle. You may need to custom fabricate a mount or use the mounting sleeve that comes with the 3500. More on reddit.com

I'm planning to upgrade the head unit in my 1990 Saab 900 Turbo. I've set my eyes on a Pioneer AVH-3500NEX that I'm looking to buy from Amazon. However, Amazon didn’t prompt me about buying a trim or a harness with it.
Currently, my Saab has a Dual brand single DIN unit installed (no screen). I'm pretty new to the car audio world and need some help:
Can I use the existing harness for the new Pioneer unit, or should I invest in a new vehicle-specific harness? Where are they usually bought?
Since no trim kit was suggested, do I need one for the Pioneer AVH-3500NEX to ensure it fits well in my Saab’s dashboard?
Any tips on the installation process or things to watch out for would be great!!
