I still play a lot of browser games, but I don't agree that they are easier to make now than before. IMO flash was much easier to make games in than html 5 (or unity with export to html 5), and flash dying has made this much worse. Even still, there are tons of good casual games on mobile (with no microtransactions etc), they are just buried under the junk. I personally also think that probably a lot of people who would be making or playing flash games are now in places like Roblox (which has a ton of games made by literal children, much like flash). Anyway, if you are looking for good browser games, I think you should check these out: itch.io is the place for small games in general, and it lets you filter by games that are playable in the browser . There are a ton of great games there, and many of them are free. Some of the other categories on this list are good tags to search on itch. I really like a lot of pico-8 games, which are pretty much all playable in the browser. Some of the more popular games made with this have been developed into bigger games (e.g. Celeste and Slipways). You can look at the itch tag . My personal favorite might be combo pool . All of these tend to be similar in scope and feel to flash games, in my opinion. If you want something more narrative oriented, Twine and Bitsy games are also generally playable in the browser There are a few specific developers that make a lot of good webgames. ABA games and Increpare are two of my personal favorites Terry's free game of the week is not specifically focused on web games, but there are a lot of them and I think he generally makes good picks By far my most personally played category of browser game is Tetris. The Tetris Company can be a bit litigious, so a lot of non-official tetris games have a hard time being sold on normal game platforms, and are instead browser games. tetr.io and jstris are both some of my most played games for the past few years.
