Podcast Equipment Guide: What I Recommend After 500 Episodes
These two stories, along with dozens of others, cause me to look for specific things in my podcast gear: Simplicity: Avoid unnecessary cables and accessories that can break · Reliability: I want reliable, time-tested equipment, not fancy new features · Hardware > Software: I want solid, physical buttons, not a finicky touch-screen interface ... prioritize the recording environment over the gear itself, because a basic setup in a good recording environment will beat expensive gear in an untreated space every time.

Podcast Equipment Guide: The 5 Pieces of Equipment You Need + How to Start Your Podcast for $90!
August 26, 2024 - I’ve used my MacBook to record my podcast and have the entire time I've had my business. Plus, if you are doing video interviews or you are using video for your solo episodes to put somewhere like YouTube or to create clips from, you need your computer to have video capabilities, which is funny to say because most computers have a webcam now and a great one at that. But if yours doesn’t, you can also purchase a webcam or additional video equipment that you plug into your computer and connect.
What is the best Podcasting Tech Equipment?
If you are truly new to this you are going to have to temper your expectations and dial down the complexity. Stage 1: Master your DAW. Learn how to capture, process and edit recordings. This alone takes quite a bit of time. Especially if you’re trying to incorporate musical (instruments) as an element. There is mixing, mastering and many other things to learn. Stage 2: Once your abilities in your DAE are fine tuned move onto finding better audio hardware for your environment and budget. There are many different ones with different profiles which suit certain applications. Vocal mics aren’t going to work as well as one that is recording an instrument. Stage 3: Once you’ve got your audio production up to your personal standards you would need to sort out your storage requirements and backup solutions for the projects you plan to produce. Stage 4: With all that in place you will then need to master a video editing application like Premier or DaVinci resolve. Like the DAW above you’re going to want to fully understand the software and basic editing principles before you make things complex with multiple cameras and angles. Stage 5: Now that you’ve got all that in place you can finally begin to look into video hardware. Cameras, switchers, lenses and lighting setups. More on reddit.com

What equipment to do I need to start podcast?
Love that you are going for it, and honestly, you don’t need a huge budget to start. For the cheapest but decent setup, grab a usb mic like the samson q2u or audio-technica atr2100x, both sound great and don’t need extra gear. If you are doing in-person recordings, a simple two-mic audio interface like the focusrite scarlett 2i2 could help, but usb mics are the easiest way to start. For software, riverside.fm is perfect for recording and editing without needing a mixer or soundboard. it records locally (so no internet glitches) and makes remote interviews easy. If you wanna add video later, even a decent smartphone on a tripod works fine. Keep it simple, focus on good convos, and upgrade as you go! More on reddit.com
Beginner Podcast Setup Advice
Opinion: Stay away from the Neewer stuff. I find it is cheaply made (boom arms etc) and will not last. u/chasingorange has good suggestions. I would avoid USB mics entirely since you already know you are bringing in another mic. My suggestions for solid beginner stuff.-- all onAmazon Behringer 1800S Mics (3 pack for $48) Any boom arm will work, just make sure it has some heft Cables and pop filters -- figure about $20 per mic. Get longer than you need and I am a fan of spending money on good cables Interface -- The Steinerg is great. Also look at a Focusrite Scarlett about the same $ You will be running USB out of the interface to your computer. You can use Audacity to record (it is free and some people hate it, but it does the trick and is pretty robust with a few drawbacks--but no sense spending $ on software to edit if you are not sure yo are going long term with this) I'd also buy a spare cable or two and have a few extra pop filters or foam filters--they go bad, get lost, etc and are not too expensive, but will save the day in a pinch. October 16, 2024 - For recording 2-4-person interviews, it’s easier to use than the older H4n model. Pro tip: ALWAYS put in new batteries for every important interview. I use simple earbuds for sound checks and set up. Shure SM58-LC Cardioid Vocal Microphone without Cable — Thanks to Bryan Callen for introducing me to these. I’ve tried all sorts of fancy lavalier mics, booms, etc. For my money, nothing beats these old-school stage mics for in-person podcasting.
