r/Domains on Reddit: Saved hundreds moving from GoDaddy to Porkbun.
July 1, 2025 -

I used to have Uniregistry which I loved and then GoDaddy acquired them so of course all my domains have been with GoDaddy since then. I was hesitant to move due to multiple websites that are being ran with them.

Well I made the move and can’t be more happy. I will be saving around 55%, which for me was a little over $700 per year just by switching registrars.

The best part is that I did all of this in about 30 minutes using their bulk transfer tool. GoDaddy will then allow you to expedite the approval and you can be done with GoDaddy in no time.

I highly suggest you make the move.

Why I Moved All My Domains to Porkbun from GoDaddy - BackstageIncome
January 19, 2022 - For me the cost was not too big of a deal but the privacy on the GoDaddy’s side was like 10 or 20 extra per year but when you add that across multiple domain names that starts to add up but on top of that the domain names at Porkbun are a lot cheaper.

Cheaper, reliable domain registrar than GoDaddy - Domains
I've been with GoDaddy for a few years now, but like many I was hooked in by the 99c domains for the first year and over time their rates are adding up and costing me me than their competitors. I migrated 2 of my .com domains to PorkBun and pay half as much for domain renewals now. More on forums.whirlpool.net.au

Hi guys. I finally came up with a business name. What's the best reliable site to buy domain from?
Don't use GoDaddy for registration and don't search for domains with them. They used to do a tactic called "domain tasting" where they would silently register your new domain behind the scenes to them then charge you a premium to purchase it from them. Since they owned the domain for the next five days you had to buy it from them at their price if you wanted it. More on reddit.com

February 25, 2023 - Porkbun does have some great pricing. What really also impresses me about them is their pricing transparency. You can easily find a listing of their pricing for registrations, transfers, and renewals. That's a nice feature that hopefully all registrars will eventually provide up front. ... After Godaddy raised the cost of the Discount Domain Club to 100%, I decided to move all my domains to Porkbun.

June 29, 2023 - Porkbun was originally launched to run a new TLD registry, and the company owned .wiki, .ink, .design, .gay, and .tattoo. But post-launch, Porkbun found that larger registrars like GoDaddy did not market these domains the way Porkbun would have liked to, so they launched their own!

November 11, 2024 -

So, I had a frustrating experience with Namecheap. They simply tripled the renewal price of my .com domain. I thought about transferring the domain and buying another one I need at Porkbun, but do they also have this kind of trick? Will they suddenly raise the price 3, 4, or 10 times? In my case, the price tripled in 1 year. Or is it better to just go with Cloudflare?

If anyone has experience with these domain registration sites, please clear this doubt for me.

It's $12 on GoDaddy for the first year.

Does it actually matter?

It says after the first year it's $20.

Also a second question can I just buy it on GoDaddy for the first year and then change who I buy it from after that or are you stuck with godaddy forever?
