May 23, 2021What size frame would you recommend for this poster?
Former custom framing here. My plan will cost a lot of money, but will make this a 'permanent decoration' for you. See a framer first. If you can get additional copies of the poster, then 'mount' it first (attach it to a larger piece of foam board, minimizes the wrinkles, but don't do this if you can't get another poster). Then bring the foam board to get signed. You want 'mat borders' that are about 2-3" a side. This will bring the total frame size to about 16" x 20". In my view, I like a 'double mat' where the main color is that pale green background, and the smaller mat is a color that is in the picture itself, probably a dark green, but maybe the gold or orange - it would 'pop'. Hi all,
I work in a screenprinting workshop that is looking to get into editing our own art prints. We're French and we're pretty familiar with the standard sizes for frames here and probably in Europe, but since our first artist is American and we're looking for an international clientele we're wondering what would be the standard sizes in the US. We want our customers to be able to just go to their version of Ikea and grab a frame there, or use one of their existing frames at this format.
We want to sell the largest format possible knowing that we could print an artwork as big as 70x100 cm, so approximately 27"x39". I saw that it's possible to buy this format, but I don't know how easy it is to get them in a local hardware store.

24" x 36" is the most common large poster frame size. This would be the easiest for people in the US to find. 27" x 40" is a less common "movie poster" standard size but they're a little more difficult to find and selection would be limited.

24x36" and 27x40" frames are much more widely and affordably available than 27x39". For example, Walmart has a low-end 27x40" frame available in-store for $12 (and 24x36" for $10), and doesn't carry 27x39" in-store at any price - but you can order one on Walmart's website via third-party sellers for $100-$200! So since you can't quite do a full 27x40", I'd recommend you go down to 24x36". For some additional context, those sizes are particularly popular in the US because 27x40" is the standard theatrical movie poster size, and 24x36" is a very common size for reprint posters sold in mass-market stores.
