r/publicdomain on Reddit: Is there any good website for sourcing public domain images and only public domain images?
September 25, 2024 -

I have been using Wikicommons, which has alot of good old and new public domain photos which are of course free to use. However as everything on there is user uploaded and things put on there are usually on uploaded to be Wikipedia articles themselves, it has a very limited library I find.

And looking up Public domain image websites, you get a bunch of different ones charging you $30 for stock images lol.

So does anyone know if there is such a place that hosts all/nearly all public domain images that are accessible for free, or is such a place in the same realms of Narnia in terms of its reality

February 18, 2010 -

I'm working on my BFA project right now and Im trying to find the strangest, high-res public domain imagery.

Wikipedia has a good starting point here

The best thing on there is the link to Yale's library The old west stuff is sort of what Im looking for.

I also found this site. Burning Well

However, Im looking really for strange and beautiful imagery.

I really like the book this guy made

Also, Im looking for stuff like this

So not traditionally beautiful images, but still stuff that has some power and beauty to it in a weird way.

I appreciate any and all help.

Edit: I found this list of government sites that have image galleries

Edit2: that list is really great for landscapes and satelite images. I need people, animals and objects.

r/collage on Reddit: [Discussion] Sources for CC0/Public Domain images and photos
May 15, 2025 -

Hey there. I thought this could be a place for sharing CC0/Public Domain sources for collages. I know there are sites like unsplash or pixels, but I red about cases where people upload images there, that are copyrighted by another people (and about groups that do this on purpose to make money). For this reason, I often look for CC0/public domain images/photos that are offered by museums or single artists/photographers which share them on their websites. So here is what I found - I hope you find it useful and add more:

1.) Websites with CC0 illustrations by Pablo Stanley: https://www.transhumans.xyz/about https://www.openpeeps.com/ https://www.humaaans.com/

2.) Webite with CC0 illustrations by Katerina Limpitsouni: https://undraw.co/

3.) Website with CC0 illustrations by Vijay Verma: https://illlustrations.co

4.) Websites from museums and similar stuff (you have to set filters to find PD stuff):

https://collections.britishart.yale.edu/catalog/

https://www.loc.gov/free-to-use/

https://www.flickr.com/commons

5.) Raxpixel.com (has collections with public domain stuff - for example paintings by the artist Paul Klee)

6.) Website with CC0 photos by Markus Spiske (Note that the photos doesn't have a model or property release): https://ffcu.io/

7.) Website with free photos by Ryan McGuire (Note that there is many AI stuff too and I'm not sure if the photos have a model release AND read the license page): https://gratisography.com/license/

8.) Website with free photos by Karolina Grabowska (There is a model release, but read the license page for allowed uses): https://kaboompics.com/page/terms-of-use
