It seems that a lot of sets these days won't include a comforter. Sometimes, a duvet cover is available with the set. Then you can use the duvet cover only if you are a hot sleeper. But you will need to get a duvet insert if you want the "comforter" feel. Comforters are getting hard to find because the norms have changed in the last few years. I've been window shopping for sheets a long time. Right now, I have a nice percale set and use a cotton bedspread as I'm sort of over comforters. There is no reason to get whatever you want as a cover in the same brand of your sheets. So, you can get the Target brand (I've heard good things about), then any comforter or other cover you want. Just Google "comforters" and find the material and style you want. They are still available, but duvets seem to be more popular and offer more variety. For instance, I think that I will buy a linen flat sheet as a cover for my percale sheet set. I want to try linen, so this way, I can experiment with just one product, and I think the weight and cooling qualities will work well for me. Good luck! More on reddit.com

There are going to be people who hate this, but go to the thrift. I’ve gotten my top three favorite quilts from goodwill bins. They were all handmade and would easily have cost me $300 brand new- I paid $5-10 based on the weight. Inspect it fully for rips and big stains- immediately wash in hot water and full heat dry when you get home. If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg, the trade off is a time investment and potentially getting something that doesn’t fit your needs 100%. That trade off works for me, personally. I recommend Target over Walmart - you generally get better quality for the price. Target’s Threshold performance line is very decent. It’s hard for me to recommend a comforter, I sleep hot and never found a comforter that doesn’t have me waking up sweaty (my old silk filled one was good but it was pricey and I ruined it by washing it). I use blankets and quilts. Target’s Threshold channel stitch cotton velvet quilt is great, I have two. It is soft, pretty, warm and can be washed at home. You can look at it in the store and if you like it, they have some colors on EBay that are less than half retail price! More on reddit.com
