I know this is not exactly what you’re looking for, but….I recently switched to a quilt, rather than a comforter and I have zero regrets. I got one from Land’s End that is modern, with a velvety texture. It’s a wonderful weight, looks attractive, and can be layered with blankets/sheets to get the perfect temp. r/Bedding on Reddit: Decision fatigue on what comforter to buy for a sweaty bed partner
July 21, 2025 -

Here's the setup: I have allergies and like to keep it cooler at night since it helps me breathe better. My bed partner sweats like no other, and then shivers when his body is cooling off. He used to sleep with a weighted blanket, but I literally feel trapped under it, so I need something lighter. I like a quilt, but he finds it itchy. I've been combing through Reddit for probably 5 hours, and I cannot decide on what we need to improve our sleeping experience. Silk insert? Cotton duvet? Wool?? Someone, please just tell me what to do. Budget around $200 ideally.

Edit: I understand your comments that we can simply sleep under two different blankets. There is nothing against that, but I just prefer to have something universal even if we have to meet somewhere in the middle with our needs.

I hate my duvet/cover scenario. I want a really wonderful, 1-piece comforter. Machine washable, please. Under $300 for a King would be ideal.

I can run hot but I also love a little weight on me. I’ve been eyeing Quince comforters but will take any recs. Thank you!

EDIT: To clarify — one piece means I don’t want a duvet + insert. Just a comforter… or maybe a quilt since some of those ideas are sounding good.

Any help would be appreciated. For many years we had a rosette jersey cotton quilt from Anthropologie. We finally replaced it last year with a casaluna linen blend comforter from target. I liked the extra weight and I felt like it did a better job keeping me warm than the rosette quilt/comforter. However, it is inconvenient AF to have to take it to the dry cleaner every time we want to clean it because it requires an industrial washer to clean it (I had Covid a couple of weeks after buying it).

We also previously had some supine cotton sheets from macys hotel collection that I loved for how incredibly buttery soft they were. But they wore out and would discolor quickly with my husband’s sweat / natural oils (he has fairly oily skin). They were pricey and we replaced them a couple of times over 5 years. We switched to cotton percale which seemed fine but I miss the buttery softness of the supima. Whatever sheets they get, we have a very thick mattress so need extra deep sheets.

Edited to add: don’t want anything itchy (linen can be) or anything velvet. Thanks!

Appreciate any advice!

My partner and I live in an oven of an apartment and we can’t afford the light bill anymore to blast the A.C., so we need to upgrade and invest in a sleeping system that can keep us cool through the night.

We currently have cotton and polyester blend sheets and are looking to change them and our duvet as well.

I keep seeing that silk sheets are recommended for hot sleepers but I don’t know which brand is the best to keep us cool and that doesn’t fall apart after a few washes.

I’m also not sure which direction to go in with the duvet. On one hand I like how comfy really soft duvets are but I also wouldn’t mind something with more weight to it since we both have anxiety. Either way we need something that won’t trap heat. Help please!

Take the duvet off the bed and just use sheets in the summer. There's no such thing as a not hot duvet, that's the point of the duvet. It might take a few tries to get used to it but I promise you a human being can sleep just fine under only a sheet. Air is the insulator, not the material the sheet or duvet is made out of. Materials that trap air within them give a layer of insulation that is proportional to how much air they trap. A thick ass duvet is going to make you hot, doesn't matter if it's coated in silk or cotton. Down is hot because the little feather fluffs are evolutionarily designed to trap as much air as possible with as little material as possible. It's not intrinsic to the materials feathers are made of. Silk can be just as hot as cotton if the weave is tight and the threads are as heavy, but usually it's a looser weave of thinner threads. If you want more weight on top of you (I hate it but whatever) just get a weighted blanket. You can't have a big fluffy duvet on top of you and be cool. That's just thermodynamics.

No suggestions because I am going through the same being extremely hot in my husband and I’s bed. I posted something similar a couple weeks back and got these suggestions: using a quilt instead of a duvet, regardless of if you get a silk duvet (many people said you can still get hot) bamboo sheets bed jet system getting away from polyester made mattress and/or memory foam Hope this helps! Also commenting so I can see suggestions made!

I've been a "grab a neutral TJ Maxx sheets set" girl for years. I've brought the same sheets and comforters from apartment to apartment and I'm ready to upgrade to something more quality to finally cultivate my dream adult aesthetic. I genuinely have no idea what are good places to buy from. I'm willing to splurge for something that feels cool but is also luxe quality. My personal style is mid century and adding kitschy but thoughtful pieces to it!

I'm trying to avoid patterns and instead go for a single color. I'd like to find something in olive green, a golden warm yellow, or a toasted orange.

Thank you!

June 21, 2025 -

Hi all,

My fiance and I are looking to upgrade to a king bed and adding things to our registry. Would love some recommendations for the whole bed - from the frame to the linens! I've added ones I've seen highly recommended but would love to hear more opinions:

BED FRAME: For the frame we are torn between getting an Ethan Allen wooden bed, like the Chloe or Clermont. Alternatively looking at the Tatami Room bed frames or Thuma classic bed in Espresso.

DUVET/COMFORTER:

  1. Boll and Branch - Signature Comforter/Hemmed Duvet Set

  2. Pottery Barn - Cozy Cloud/Cloud Duvet Cover or Belgian Flax Linen Duvet Cover

  3. Quince - European Linen Bedding/Duvet

  4. West Elm Silky TENCEL™ Plush Comforter & Shams

  5. LL Bean Down Comforters

  6. The Company Store - LaCrosse Premium Down Medium Warmth Comforter

  7. Frankenmuth Wool Comforter

PILLOWS:

  1. Buckwheat Husk pillow

  2. Coop Home Goods adjustable pillow/Coop Eden

  3. Purple Harmony pillow

  4. Malouf Zoned Dough

  5. Original Matters Factory Talalay

  6. Downlite brand goose down

  7. Frankenmuth Wool Pillow

  8. Parachute down pillow

LINENS:

  1. Quince Linen

  2. Pottery Barn

  3. Boll and Branch

ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!!

February 7, 2024 -

So I just bought a new bed and I’m finally able to make my floofy dream cloud come true.

However, all the comforter/quilt/duvet inserts I’ve looked at look like sad, pathetic, gangly slices of depression and I would really love to be able to jump onto cotton candy and fucking sunshine!!

Does anyone know how I can achieve this? I don’t care about it being warm or what it’s made of I would just like it to be crazy fluffy and soft.

Thanks!

r/Bedding on Reddit: Comforter/duvet recommendation (help I’m overwhelmed)
June 22, 2023 -

Okay sorry for the long post, but I’ve been trying to find a new comforter or duvet/duvet cover but it’s overwhelming. I’ve read countless Reddit threads. For backstory:

I run veryyyy hot at night due to chronic illness, and sleep much better when I’m cooler. The Midwest summer months are awful for me. However, I love the feel of a big fluffy comforter (as does my partner).

I’ve heard so many different testimonies as to which type of material is the most breathable (linen/cotton/bamboo), and I’m also confused as to if it’d be better to get a comforter, or a duvet and a duvet cover?

I’m leaning towards duvets, as I’ve heard they’re easier to clean (or rather the covers are easier to clean) but don’t know much about the filling materials and what not.

So I guess I’m curious, what would y’all recommend/what have you had good luck with in terms of an outer layer setup/brands you recommend/materials, etc for staying super cool and breezy. I hope this makes sense! TYIA!!

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Comforter or bed system for a hot, sweaty sleeper (with a not sweaty partner)?
April 5, 2025 -

So my partner recently moved in with me, and we have been having a bit of sleep struggle. Here's the problem:

He hates top sheets, he refuses to use one and prefers just a duvet. Totally fine with me, I'm indifferent to them.

I am the hottest sleeper alive, and wake up with my hair fully wet from sweat.

I also like to sleep under fluffy blankets with a decent amount of weight, which does not bode well for my sweaty ass.

We got a fluffy cotton duvet and it's very comfortable, and before it got warm out, we were sleeping just fine together. But as it gets warmer, I've been finding myself waking up feeling gross and sticky, with a film of sweat over my entire body. Losing clothes doesn't work. We have a Purple Plus mattress, which is way better than memory foam in terms of heat, but the duvet is causing trouble for me.

Is there any fluffy comforter that will help my body circulate air without it being a thin waffle-weave blanket or something? I prefer something cushy and luxurious feeling instead of just a thin blanket. I've also debated getting the BedJet, but we would not be using the sheet that comes with it since my partner hates top sheets so much. Would the BedJet be okay under just a comforter?

Sorry for the very specific question, but I appreciate any insight or recommendations!

I don't get why more people don't do this. I would be divorced by now without it. My wife always steals shared blankets. And we have different temperature preferences. This allows us the keep the room cooler, as I prefer, while she is still warm and we don't have to worry about stealing each other's blankets. I have a lighter comforter, and it's perfect for me.
