What do you all think in regards to return shipping with not accepting returns vs having buyer pay return shipping?
My thought is if a buyer submits an INAD(Item not as described) the seller is responsible for paying return shipping even if they do not accept returns for that item. Whereas with buyer paid shipping the buyer would be responsible for return postage regardless of the reason.

If you have “buyer pays return shipping”, YOU the seller are still responsible for paying return shipping AND refunding the original shipping for INAD cases. It’s part of eBay’s guarantee to buyers that they get what they ordered. I used to not accept returns. Now I accept returns and do “buyer pays return shipping.” I think this helps. First of all, I hardly get returns but I’m less annoyed by them because I am mentally already prepared. Secondly, I think buyer paid returns discourages returns, especially for lower value items. Nobody wants to pay $7-8 to return a $20 item and then also not get their original shipping ($7-8) back.

I set most of my listings to “buyer pays return shipping” as I believe this makes it less likely for a buyer to open a return as INAD, and by the time they realize they have to pay return shipping it’s too late to go back and change their return reason to something else (at least without significant shenanigans). But I do set one category of items to “no returns” and that is trading cards (specifically Pokémon), and the reason for this is eBay only provides the money back guarantee to buyers for 3 days after the delivery date. Other categories they get 30 days so they can always return the item even if I set them to no returns just by claiming it was not as described.

Hi, I recently noticed that when buyer wants to return an item, when refunding the buyer, I have to refund the shipping cost as well. I do not get returns often, but as I remember sometime ago you would only need to refund the items price, right? Doesn't seem really fair when my main sales are abroad, shipping is more expensive and if I get returns I get a quite financial loss. Was it like that always? What do you do? Thanks.

I think it depends on the reason, if it is item not as described/arrived damage you have to pay always. If not I would contact customer service.

Have mine set at no returns and have faught many INADs and won. Just because someone tries to return INAD doesn't mean it's a blanket fact that it will happen. Force them to send you photos and if they don't respond to you then get eBay to close the claim after the duration. I couldn't give a hoot in hell that I can't be the super uber seller rating level because I refuse to offer free returns but honestly, I probably make more money not letting people screw me on returns than what I'd say on the super uber seller rating level.
