For people still on the fence, I HATE MY RUGGABLES. Love the pattern/colors and that’s the only reason I still have it. This is what it does every time I vacuum (yes I adjust the suction setting and this is on the lowest). Also not shown is the curling up on one of the edges. Trying to get this turd to lay flat and wrinkle free takes an act of god. Answer from brogers008 on reddit.com

r/HomeDecorating on Reddit: Ruggable vs Tumble rugs

Are they worth it? I have two kids, a dog, and three cats. I want something that’s durable and will withstand the wear and tear. Anyone out there have a Ruggable or Tumble rug? Honest reviews please!

I’m sure you’ve already made up your mind since this post was a year ago, but for anyone else wondering: we have 3 Tumble rugs (a 7 ft runner, 10 ft runner, and 9x12 rug). The 9x12 is used in the kids’ play/school room and they constantly drop stuff or color on it. We have had bottles of paint (washable kids’ paint) and Elmer’s glue dropped on it, as well as kids and dogs poop, pee, and throw up on it, all which has washed out like a charm. I’ve washed it 6-7 times and it always comes out looking fantastic. This rug is my absolute favorite, and I’m thinking about updating our living room rug with a Tumble the same size. We have no problems with the rug moving (but it’s huge so that helps), it fits nicely in our washer, and the it’s been amazing. Sometimes if I forget to click my vacuum to “high pile” it does pull on the rug especially on the edges, but I can still vacuum it and if your vacuum has that setting it works great. The two runners are great too, but we do have a bit more problem with them moving around. They’re in high traffic areas, the smaller one being in an area that is 1/2 carpet 1/2 tile, where kids and dogs are running around a corner causing the rug to slip around more. I honestly think this would happen to any rug though, so it doesn’t bother us. The runners get washed bi-weekly (I can’t even count how many times total) and have held up amazingly and always come out looking vibrant and clean. The dogs love to lay in one spot on the rug (which is why that rug is there as our carpet just can’t handle it) and it goes into the wash dirty as hell, and comes out as clean as I bought it. One of our dogs also does this thing where she nervously scratches the rug where she lays, and we’ve never had a problem with the fibers pulling or anything. She has destroyed multiple dog beds and a sectioning of couch, but that rug holds up to it just fine. It has saved our carpet in that one area from needing immediate replacement. I do not have a Ruggable as in researching before purchasing I thought I’d prefer the rug corners slipping over the rug pad with Tumble, versus lining up the velcro with Ruggable, but that is just my personal preference. Tumble also had a better price, at least at the time.

Ruggable cheapest 8x10ft rug - $489
Tumble cheapest 8x10ft rug - $389

From seeing them in person:

Ruggable has a cheaper look to them where the design clearly looks like it’s been printed on.

Tumble rugs look higher quality more like the design is woven in the fabric. I’m not sure if they are better woven or printed, but they at least certainly look higher quality. Tumble also have a Spillproof aspect to them that really does work.

Instagram has been showing me lots of ads for tumble rugs. Does anyone have them and if so do you like/ dislike them? I stayed away from ruggable because I heard it’s basically just like a canvas on the floor and I’m wondering if tumble is the same. Thank you!

I love the tumble rug I have, but the pad is driving me nuts! I use it in the room for my foster kittens so dust and litter gets on the pad. So sometimes I want to vacuum the pad while the rug is in the washing machine, but the stupid puzzle piece pads get sucked up into the vacuum every time! I can’t take it anymore.

I’m actually contemplating switching to a Ruggable rug in there completely even though they’re so much more expensive and I don’t know if they’re water/pet proof like tumble rugs are, but if I can just get the Ruggable pad and it will work, it will solve all my problems.

Potty training toddler.

We got a large wool rug for a steal at Home Goods but now after several years, it feels gross. We live in a rural area so it’s not easy to take it somewhere to clean. We wanted a rug in the living room since that’s where our son plays most of the time, and when he was crawling, we wanted something softer than hardwood.

We’ve spot cleaned it but it’s hard to clean.

Now I’m really intrigued by washable rugs (tumble, Ruggable). Has anyone had these? What’s your review?

Or maybe I’ll just get rid of rugs all together. I got rid of the rug in his room because I was tired of picking cheerios out of it and it was so much easier to sweep the hardwood! 😂

I’ve newly discovered the world of washable rugs only to not find any with good recommendations? I’m not looking for anything fancy, just something that can be thrown in the washing machine and won’t get sucked up by my vacuum. I’d be getting a 5x7 or even 5x6 if I can find it. I’ve seen Ruggable and Tumble Rugs but seem to only be seeing the bad reviews. I see that Amazon has some but again, more bad reviews than good. So I’m hopeful that Reddit can help me narrow down at least where I should buy one.

We have been slowly replacing all of the rugs in our house with ruggables, the washable rug system, and have been very happy. With a baby, a dog, and a potty training toddler, being able to throw rugs in the washing machine is invaluable. With that said, they are not cheap. Has anyone tried a knock off brand and been happy with it?

Tumble Rugs come with a foam play-mat like pad that you lay and secure the rug on top of. The foam material is like a children's play mat that you put together like a puzzle. Ruggable has 2 options for padding- I ordered the original.

r/HomeDecorating on Reddit: Ruggable review
May 12, 2022 -

I was buying (another) ruggable today and I stumbled across some old Reddit threads. I was surprised to see that people didn’t like them. I love mine! I have two and just bought another one. So I just wanted to share my experience

I have a dog, and there are definitely accidents sometimes along with obvious dog hair. Before I bought my first ruggable, I was going through an area rug what felt like every six months. I have a carpet cleaner too, and all the area rugs would just get to a point where even after I spot treated, vacuumed, raked, and carpet cleaned it, it just still felt ick. Also that “dog smell” that just sticks to fabric eventually would just still linger even after I used the carpet cleaner.

I bought a ruggable and I will say a few things. It is very thin. When I bought it, they only had one type of pad, so I also have a rug pad pad underneath mine in the living room, which I personally feel is fine.

With having a dog, we vacuum every day and the ruggable also feels to me like it gets to an ick point, so I end up washing it about once a month and it feels good as new. It’s amazing how much dog hair comes out in the dryer lint trap even after it’s vacuumed and washed.

Also, the texture is different than a traditional rug, it doesn’t have individual fibers, but I’m willing to sacrifice that for the ability to wash it. Some of the things that I have spilled on my rug and it has come straight out in the wash - entire glass of cranberry juice, dog pee/poop, dog vomit, smooshed blueberries and raspberries. When I spilled the cranberry juice I was actually pretty bummed because I thought there was no way that would come all the way out, and figured I would just put the spot where I spilled under the furniture, and after I washed it I couldn’t even tell.

I have the 8x11 one in my living room and it is a pain in the ass to put down, but at this point I have a system and I can put it down in about 10 minutes. It also does wrinkle when you vacuum it, but again I personally don’t really care because the ability to clean it is more important to me.

I have a shag one in my son’s room, which also has withstood milk, formulas, spit up, etc. and I love the ability to clean it since my son crawls around on it. And I just bought one for outside because I don’t see how you can have an outdoor rug and not have it get nasty throughout the season.

So I just wanted to share. Are they like a regular rug? Not really. A pain in the ass but with practice is fine. But for me the ability to wash it when it gets nasty outweighs everything.

Ruggable vs. Tumble: We put both rugs head to head | Mashable
May 18, 2025 - When Ruggable stepped onto the scene in 2010, the brand changed the game with its rugs that you could easily throw into the wash if they ever got soiled, looking as good as new without requiring any heavy-duty carpet cleaning equipment. Now, Tumble has joined the competition, offering a similarly streamlined experience to Ruggable, but with a few tweaks that help it stand on its own.
