r/namenerds on Reddit: Sage for a boy???
May 28, 2019 -

We just found out we are having a boy due April. We absolutely loved the name Sage for a girl, but today my partner suggested why don’t we use it for a boy too.

He has a strong sounding last name beginning with S, our family is of Aboriginal Australian origin. It is common in my partner’s family to use the name of the father for your first born son, but the thought of having three Josephs just kills me so Joseph will be the middle name.

I don’t know if Sage has become too feminine. I know it is a unisex name but I personally have only heard it as a girls name. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated!

Edit: Our daughters name is Iluka, which is of Aboriginal origin, and I would have loved to added a cultural aspect to the name, but haven’t found any Aboriginal boy names I like yet.
