You've been in sales for a decent amount of time. Leverage the experience you have to secure a new position. Sales, especially SaaS, is a high demand position. Do this: Identify an industry you desire to work within. 1a. What type of software did you sell? Are you interested in staying within the industry your software served? What are other industries that have a similar problem to the problems you solved when selling? Identify a list of 100 sales managers at companies within your target industry. 2a. Write 3 emails that describe how your previous experience would be applicable to the target audience the sales manager would want to reach. Send the emails to each sales manager. 3 emails to each sales manager, separate the emails by 3 days each. 2b. Attach you resume to the email. Comment and like the activity of the sales manager and send them LinkedIn messages notifying them of your desire to work for them. This is a very basic strategy to secure an entry level sales position. It works because you are recognized as having a key skill important for entry level sales: the ability to prospect and follow up. Best of luck to you...

For those of you who have successfully landed a sales job with no prior experience, what was it that got you the job? Was there anything specific you put on your resume that grabbed their attention? Use of cover letter?
I’m looking to start a sales career in HVAC and I’ve applied to a few places to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for taking the time to participate in this conversation.
EDIT: For more context, the only experience I have in sales and customer relations is that I’ve worked as a delivery driver for a furniture company and I have 3 years of being in a MLM with a group of 3/18. I recently walked into a HVAC shop and asked to speak with the sales manager. Told him my experience and he said the MLM I was apart of was a scam. He still asked me for my name and number and said they’ll be hiring for the comfort advisor position in 2 weeks. Should I even be bringing up my experience with my old MLM?

Got my first sales job by being referred by another employee. But my advice is leave out the MLM. Only goofballs get involved with those honestly and it just makes you seem like you are easily swindled.

Networking was what did it for me. Demonstrate that i have transferrable skillsets and effectively communicating that. Try applying for start-ups, they maybe less stringent. Be open to more junior level jobs to get foot in door. good luck to you
