August 4, 2024Need help choosing between Samson Q2U vs Audio-Technica AT2020 or others..
0- Spend a bit more on your XLR cable, the cheapest ones often introduce noises from EM interferences because they're not properly balanced and shielded. You can find very decent cables (Cordial, Sommer Cable, etc) for 15€ to 20€ for the short length you need for a desktop usage. 1- Why not go for Behringer XM8500? As of now they are 15€ on Amazon France, and can be found elsewhere (Thomann etc) for 20€ all the time. They're very good mics, at least on par with the Q2U since you don't need the USB connection using your audio interface. Or, if you don't already have the interface, go for the Q2U (or the ATR2100x which is equivalent and can sometimes be found for less money) to use it via USB and don't buy the interface. 2- Yes. 3- Probably worth it at least on a budget. 4- Probably not. Maybe room treatment if the room is noisy and induce a lot of reverb. But mostly it will be mic placement wrt your computer regarding the fan noise that will be important. More on reddit.com

May 19, 2025I bought the Samson Q2U and I hate it so much
Unless you somehow accidentally left the switch on the side of the mic in the "off" position, it sounds like you have defective unit. I have four of them and have never had that problem. I'd looking into seeing if Samson will replace it. More on reddit.com
