Unlocked Galaxy vs Carrier versions questions?
I did some research when I bought my US s9+. If you live in the US then get the US variant unless you really want to unlock the bootloader. Thanks to a bit of kneecapping, the Snapdragon and Exynos chips are about on the same level for performance. You'll also miss out on the warranty if you buy the international version.
As for carrier variants, the only thing I know about going unlocked on Verizon is that wi-fi calling won't work. That could've changed between then and now but I wouldn't count on it. Also carrier-locked phones will have bloatware on them, of course.
More on reddit.comAre new phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S9, unlocked out of the box or do we need to obtain the unlock code by logging into our account?
As of December ALL phones absolutely HAVE to be unlocked. Giving out free unlock codes only applies to devices produced before then. The S9 is definitely unlocked out of the box. It would be a CRTC violation for the phone not to be.

Canadian versions were supposed to get One Ui 6.0 on Nov 23. Carriers listed Nov 28 release date.
Why do our phones have to rely on carriers? I bought the phone directly from Samsung, they should be the ones sending out the updates to our phones.
Next time around, it's better to just go with carriers and get their discounts on plan/contract.
