I haven a galaxy s24 ultra purchased in Canada and a Wise card issued to me in Canada.
When i add my card to Samsung pay it says not supported. It seems to work fine on my Google wallet. Any way to fix this?
Hi all
I am a Brit currently in Malaysia. I want to explore using Wise or another contactless wallet and / or card after l was charged £12 in bank fees for a RM1,500 withdrawal (l am with HSBC), a ridiculous amount that l am still annoyed about. Kind of getting sick of carrying cash and not being able to use large notes too. But l am new to all of this so sorry if some of this comes off as silly or obvious.
This is what l have gathered till now with Wise.
Get a Wise account (which l have), connect it to Google pay (which is connected to my UK bank which l have done).
Transfer money from UK bank to Wise incurs a small fee of £1.58 ($2.12)
Use Wise wallet for contactless payments, as long as the vendor supports Visa and Mastercard it should be okay.
Order a Wise card for a one-time nominal fee (RM13.70 from what l understand). Cash withdrawals are possible with a Wise card.
Questions
l have a digital card in the 'card' menu which says Visa on it is this the Wise wallet and is this enough to actually pay using contactless payments?
Or do you need a Wise card to activate the Wise wallet? I honestly can't tell.
Silly question ahead so l do apologise. Does your phone need an internet connection / mobile data to actually pay using the Wise wallet outside?
Are you charged any additional fees when using the Wise wallet to pay?
If there is anything else l have missed that you think is important then do tell.
Thanks
WISE is a good card and the conversion rate is the market rate. If you ask me how's the experience of using it overseas, I would say it's the best and you should get it. The initial steps (activating and transferring money) might be a bit confusing, but once you have passed that stage, it's all GOOD!
BUT, I noticed that the Malaysian issued WISE card, has an issue with paywave/tap (except for public transportation) and you can't add the card to your Google Wallet / Apply Pay. So you have to either chuck the card into the terminal or swipe. I have no complaint about the security, but it can get a bit annoying since you can't tap especially if you are in hurry.
Anyone manage to solve the paywave/tap issue for retail purchase?
Ive been trying to find a virtual credit card for online shopping safety and also a gym membership somewhere new since I may want to opt out of the one I currently have (their customer service has been terrible for a while).
I thought I was onto something with privacy[dot]com but realized that you need to have an account in the US, which I don't.. wish I did though because it seems like the states have a lot more options for payment systems of all kinds.
I stumbled upon WISE and people seem to really like it for online shopping, I'm wondering if it can be used irl for things like a gym membership (so you can cancel if they start having crappy service), or things of that sort that you may wish to cancel at some point.
How are people using their WISE virtual cards? What benefits do you feel like you get from it?
I think KOHO has one as well but I havent heard much about them before.
I attempted to buy phone using Crypto.com's Visa card on samsung.com multiple times, but samsung.com never accept the card.
When I am at samsung's checkout page (https://www.samsung.com/us/web/express/checkout), upon entering the credit card information, it said:
"We do not accept prepaid cards for this transaction. Please enter a valid credit card to proceed"
or
"The credit card information you have entered is invalid.
Please enter valid credit card information."
Samsung.com support has suggested me to use Google Pay or Amazon Pay with the card. But I am not sure if that will qualify for Samsung promotion campaign if it goes through Google Pay to use this card.
