Bought the Shark Ninja NV352 after seeing lots of suggestions for it as a fantastic "budget" vacuum. 16 months later, after gentle semi-regular use, the entire vacuum has fallen apart.
Help understanding the Shark Navigator Lift Away model differences?
Thoughts on Shark Navigator Lift-Away NV352? Recommended by The Sweet Home as a best buy
These guys recommend a Shark after testing "hundreds" of models? That's the best they can find?
A lot of us that hang out here have our own stores or work in one or are in the industry, so you’re always going to get biased opinions.
The thing you really should do (if possible) is to go visit several local shops in your area and talk to them. Odds are you’re going to come away with some common denominators that should help your purchasing decision. Each place will have their favorite brands/models.
If possible, get the actual airflow (CFM), vacuum pressure (WL), and filtering efficiency ( @ .3m).
Warranty? Product support (parts available?). Expected life span? All these issues should be answered..... by the “guys” that are actually having to deal with these vacuums daily. You’re NOT going to get that info in the “big-box” stores.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't make very much money and was looking for a competent but affordable vacuum for my small apartment 16 months ago, and lots of online forums and resources suggested the Shark Ninja NV352. In fact, it's *still* the number one vacuum suggestion that comes up on the New York Times Wirecutter article, "The Best Vacuum Cleaners" (https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-vacuum-cleaner/).
I only used it to vacuum my 580 square foot apartment once a week, or once every couple weeks, and at first I loved it! Yes, it's made out of somewhat cheap feeling plastic, but it was relatively affordable and was getting the job done.
Then, around month 3, the oblong, plastic "Shark" logo on it just kind of broke off on its own. Ok, I thought, this is a kind of cheaply made vacuum, but who cares, it's just the logo.
Then the casing that connects the hose to vacuum body just kind of cracked one day while I was doing normal vacuuming, around month 6. Ok, I thought, that's actually bad, but it didn't crack off entirely, and it doesn't seem to have effected the suction so far, so it's okay.
Then around month 13, the vacuum base head just stopped functioning (the main, bottom part that you run over the floor/carpet when you're vacuuming normally). When I flipped the switch to the carpet setting, the cylinder in the base no longer rotated, and whether it was on the carpet or the normal floor setting, there was just no suction anymore.
I watched some instructional YouTube videos and troubleshot essentially every possible issue that could have caused it. I removed both vacuum filters, cleaned them, dried them, and replaced them. I took apart the entire vacuum and checked every single piece for clogs that could be causing the suction issue, and found nothing. No matter what I did, no suction from the base, no rotation of the carpet cylinder. Ok, I thought, this is actually a problem and it's only been about 13 months of semi-regular use.
But the suction from the *hose* still worked, and the vacuum came with a couple hose attachments, and I didn't want to already have to spend hundreds of dollars on a new vacuum only about 1 year after buying this one, so I just started using the hose attachments for everything. It was a hassle, but was fine for the time being.
Then today I started vacuuming. I gently lifted the vacuum by the handle, and the handle just snapped. I looked at it closely, and it didn't just pop out in a way where I could pop it back in - it actually cracked off of the vacuum.
What the fuck. I spent nearly $200 on this vacuum, and yes, I know that's more of a budget price for vacuum cleaners, but I haven't even been using it for a year and a half, I always used it gently and only semi-regularly, and it was suggested by numerous websites including the NYTs Wirecutter. I feel like I should get a full refund, but the limited warranty is only one year, so I guess I'm just screwed.
