As far as I understand it, the best way of Shopify tracking is by adding the custom GTM "pixel" via Web Pixels, subscribing to the desired events and then pushing the event data to data layer as they happen. And of course then fetching the data via GTM and sending to e.g. GA4, Google & Meta ads.
Whilst this should work fine for Shopify PLUS brands, I'm wondering if the same setup will work fine for non PLUS brands?
If not, what is the most reliable way of tracking for Shopify non PLUS brands? (with the native integration, we can only send data to GA4, but not to Google/Meta ads.)

Hi everybody! I am quite the novice in gtm. I am actually trying to setup the GTM in shopify as a custom pixel I followed a guide and setup the container of the GTM. I think I linked everything correctly but I am unable to see if it does work or not as it doesn't show in tag ASSISTANT as shopify makes it operate in sandbox. Is there any way to see if it does work? I tried inspecting and it does show while Inspecting with f12.
Meanwhile I am maintaining my current tracking in Google shopify native app for as long I am capable to check if all works correctly. (this is because I get many errors lately and lost conversion)
I also setup a backup Google ads purchase custom pixel as a backup.
My plan was to remove what was not working over time in order to avoid disrupting my PMAX campaigns (error that I already did in the past)
The problem is that my container of the gtm it shows a warning on the quality of the container (urgent) so I guess it is not normal? Saying that the tag is placed too much on the bottom (but it is placed by custom pixel)
Anyone that could help?

I accepted a freelance project to setup GTM/GA4 for a client who owns a Shopify Store, thinking it would be the same as when I managed one back in 2020... but boy was I wrong. I'm now learning about all the checkout changes, and it appears that the client is using the new checkout tool on their basic plan.
My question to the community is - do you recommend forgoing GTM, and installing GA4 through the Google and YouTube app, or should I stick with GTM and create the custom pixel?
I've seen some people on Reddit recommend the app, but I'm cautious because I A) like the functionality of GTM and don't trust shopify's free apps and B) I'm concerned at how many 1 star reviews there are, many of which claim it's broken and customer service can't / won't help them.
On the other side of the coin, Shopify's GTM page makes it seem like "checkout extensibility" is a requirement to use custom pixels, while their "checkout extensibility" page says the feature is only available to plus members. So I'm confused as to whether I'd even be able to set it up properly since the have a Basic plan.
Any thoughts and advice you have on which method you'd choose would be much appreciated!
