Small tiles = more grout = more cleaning, more places for mould to grow. Showers = damp places where mould loves to grow. Who will be doing all the cleaning of the abovementioned shower? In addition to the slip issue, I think you want smaller tiles to make it easier to work with the slope you need for the drain. More on reddit.com

As other said, the tile installation is bad, but FAR more concerning is the prep work. Your shower is going to fail if not after the first use within the first 6 months. They didn’t staggered the backer board , there is 0 waterproofing on the walls, look at the shower curb the rubber membrane should overlap the wood on the outer face of the shower, there is some drywall on the wall, screws on the top backer board of the curb, even if there is a rubber liner it was perforated by that backer board , and no waterproofing on top. GC will come with any excuse they can find but it’s guaranteed your shower will leak, sooner or later More on reddit.com

I know this is an old post, so I’m posting for others searching this subject. In this example, 12x24 tile is trendy. Look back in historical photos - do you ever see such a large tile in a home? Very likely not. Hexagon tile is more classic, depending on the color and material. As someone pointed out, Saltillo is timeless. But, it’s really only timeless in a home whose architecture style has historically used it. You can make any shape trendy, depending on size, material, and color. If you have a Spanish or Mediterranean home style, Saltillo hexagon is a perfect choice, no matter the year. Saltillo in 12x24 would look out of place in everything except perhaps a modern Spanish home(?). Make your tile choices simple. Use neutrals that work with your other hard finishes. Don’t opt for an extravagant or busy pattern. Add color and interest in your less permanent choices, like rugs, art, and soft furnishings. If you do those things, you can redecorate without the urge to rip out old tile. More on reddit.com

I am a DIYer and definitely more handy then the average person. I have only done one very small tile job, framing a window in my shower. I will have my father to help me who has a lot more experience doing this but hasn’t done it in 12 years. Do you think the small hexagon tile sheets would be too difficult to put on my shower walls? If so should I go with a larger 6” hex tile or should I just stick to square/rectangle tiles?

I'm also a DIY'er who's tiled exactly one bathroom and it came out pretty okay. Non-mosaic hex tiles are tricky on walls because they want to slide down. I used hex tiles on the floor, had some leftover, and used them in the shower niche and discovered this. I recommend sticking to rectangular tiles in the walls to keep it easy.
