People are going to tell you Harold’s, Bantings, and Perino’s, and they’re great. Maybe Urban Roots or the Plant Gallery, they’re ok. But there’s nothing wrong with saving money on plants at Lowe’s and Home Depot.

January 28, 2022 - Blue Rug Juniper, with its green blue hue, is a low growing plant that is great for ground cover, although it can get pretty wide if you are not keeping an eye on it. A lot of native grasses are warm season grasses. This allowed them not to be hurt if a fire burnt them in the spring. (And spring is a good time for prairie fires as the biomass is often lower to the ground due to winter snow knocking it down). This also means they really don’t start looking nice until late May or even June. Nothing wrong with planting tulips amongst native grasses. Nothing wrong with using natives like prairie smoke, camassia, or other native spring ephemerals either.
