Our 2 year old maytag is out of warranty and instead of spending several hundred dollars to have a technician come out we are thinking of just buying a speed queen. We have 4 children and do a ton of laundry. I want a machine that doesn't have a lid lock like our old whirlpool.
I believe the TC5 comes with a 5 year in-home labor warranty? Anything I should know before we buy it? It'll be about $1230 out the door after tax and delivery fee.
Update: We've had our Speed Queen for several months and I absolutely love it. It's built SOLID. I do wish it had a few extra settings like water level. Also, if I wash on cold my clothes come out stinky. It could be our crappy water but as long as I was on HOT there are no issues.

Why should I buy a Speed Queen?
Where is Speed Queen made?
What's the difference between TC5 and TR5?
After having a poor experience with a new Electrolux front loading washer, we got a SQ TC5. It gets clothes clean for sure. But I noticed immediately that it was pilling many of my shirts badly. The first picture is a cotton/synthetic blend that was relatively smooth before I washed it in the TC5. After it was rough with pills everywhere. The other two pics are side by sides of shirts that I have duplicates of (I'm OCD like that). The one's on the right have been washed in the TC5 and they both have a lot more pills than the ones on the left. None of the shirts are new. But one wash with the TC5's aggressive agitation really roughed them up.
I'm wondering, does anyone have the TR7 (or TR5). I've read there more gentle than the TC5 and I'm looking at exchanging for one of those. What's your experience?
So I’m clueless about laundry, and this machine is simple. However, I really love to read the instruction manual and the manual doesn’t say much. I bought the TC 5 after reading reviews here and wanting a simple machine that cleans well and lasts forever.
After looking online for basic advice, I figured I’d come here. Sounds silly, but I really don’t know what all the cycle options are. I’m also reading things that make me think my water bill is going to be sky high. I doubt it, though, as my old washer was an old Roper that filled the drum to the top every time and did a bad job cleaning.
Any links to a thorough video or directions on the specifics of operation would be nice. Also, it seems that the green agenda has taken over Google search and a lot of the reviews I read say this thing is bad for the the earth and my water bill. By BS meter goes off when I hear that, and I don’t mind taking shorter showers and I don’t water my lawn, haha.
Sorry if this is a dumb or repeat question, but I’ve checked all around and didn’t find what I really was looking for. Any help appreciated.
ETA: Model is Speed Queen® TC5 3.2 Cu. Ft. White Top Load.
Partially based on the discussion surrounding the brand I've seen on here, when our 10 year old washer started making distressing noises I headed to a local shop to check out Speed Queen washers. I was buying right before Memorial day- but these don't typically go on sale. Paid full price, which is fine. It's a locally owned family dealer, they service everything they sell, and delivered, installed, and hauled away the old one, which was the most basic Whirlpool available at the time.
Based on reviews- I hope to have this washer for a very long time. I'm 41 now, so having it until I retire seems within the realm of possibility. Good deal.
Having gone through the first two loads- here's my initial review:
Things I expected:
Noise. Some reviews online said that they're quite loud. Honestly, it doesn't seem any louder than any other washer. Definitely quieter than the breaking down one I got rid of (which had developed a series of troubling noises.)
Controls. They are mad simple. This is also something I like. I don't need lots of bells and whistles. All anyone in my house wears are jeans, tees, and the occasional button down shirt. We do have a lot of farm-dirty clothes though.
Unexpected/underestimated:
Speed. Holy cow, Speed Queen is no lie. My first load, which was quite full, with extra fill (a week's worth of business/downtime clothes after a conference) took 27 minutes. Much faster than expected. (I timed it.)
Drying: Yes, it's a washer. But with how fast it spins the clothes coming out are significantly dryer than our previous washer. Probably twice as dry? Which means shorter dryer times and faster drying for things I hang up.
So far, very pleased. If it explodes, I'll update.
Hi all
I’ve been researching washers for the past couple months after mine broke and have narrowed it down to the speed queen TC5 or possibly the TC7.
But one big concern that has popped up a lot in my research is a lot of owners of the TC5 and the pre 2018 models have issue with suds overflowing out of their drain hoses and pipes.

Speed queen is well aware of this issue and on their website post give a bandaid fix for it here. To use fabric softener or vinegar with washes that some people have had success with but I feel paying for a $1300 machine I shouldn’t need to do that.

I’m wondering if speed queen has fixed this issue with their recent batches. Any newer owners of the TC5003WN still experiencing this issue?
Thanks.
UPDATE: in case anyone was running into this issue here are two videos on YouTube about the suds drain hose problem and some potential fixes. A lot of comments are very interesting and from people fairly recently too, as of today, February 2023. I thought it might help people who were deciding on this machine but weren’t aware of this possible issue that could arise down the line because I really don’t want to deal with drywall and mold damage down the line, which is a real pain.

After lurking for a long time, I decided to pull the trigger on buying a TC5.
I've had easier times buying a car.
The "local" appliance store that does their own installs and deliveries are backordered for weeks.
The regional appliance store that has very nice salespeople but kind of makes me nervous has them - but, I'm not so sure about them.
The upscale national supply place around the corner has them on their website, but after 2 cancelled orders (1 fault, 1 theirs), I'm reluctant to place a third order - and it's coming from across the country from a third-party supplier. Everyone was really nice, just bad luck.
Then, there's AJ Madison online that I'd never heard of before I could take a chance with.
We don't need an install - just someone who'll deliver it without damage and a company that'll switch it out if we get one that's dead on arrival.
Where would you guys buy one? We usually get stuff from Costco, Lowes, Home Depot and kind of expected this to go smoother ....
I recently purchased a TC500 and DR500 Speed Queen washing machine and dryer based on all of the positive reviews. I would honestly return them if I could. The dryer has been repaired twice in the one year of ownership and the washing machine constantly leaves water marks and stains on clothing. The genesis of this post was after washing my athletics, which usually go in the upstairs front loader, and they came out just as dirty as when I put them in. I ran the cycle on delicate and it’s honestly a joke. My 6 year old apartment sized front loader does an infinitely better job and uses a fraction of the water.
Is there anyone who has used both that can chime in on which they prefer? I ordered a TC5 today but heavily debated the TR7 and am still second guessing which I would prefer. I can always change the order if I change my mind before Wednesday. We are a family of 5 with two small boys who love to play outside and play sports (aka stains). We live on a farm so some very dirty clothes but I also wash a lot of delicates. I’m coming from an old school GE top loader with agitator that is 20 years old and been problem free until now.
