December 13, 2023Stacking a new Samsung washer with an older Samsung dryer ?
I have found myself in the same situation as you and tried to find an official way to accomplish exactly what you want to do. When I visited Home Depot today the Samsung rep happened to be there. I spoke with him and he says they change the stacking kit with every model change and they don’t support mixing. He said I could call 1-800-Samsung and tell them the model numbers to see if there might be a kit that would work. After some measuring, looking at my current stacking configuration, and at the kit in Home Depot, it appears the gray plastic rails are compatible, but the difference is in the metal brackets that connect to each unit to tied them together so that the Dryer does not “walk” on top of the Washer. My current stacking configuration has the dryer cantilevered about 2-3 inches off the back, keeping the two faces flush. The old washer was 3.9 cf and the new one will be 4.5 cf. The width dimension is identical but the 4.5 is deeper. I need brackets with less cantilever to mate the two units and keep the faces flush. I ordered the replacement washer today and will have more fitment details next weekend. I did see an off brand stacking kit on Amazon that says that it is a replacement for STK 5 through 8 and has two sets of brackets with different holes for the different eras of appliances. I’m going to try it and if necessary with create my own bracket. I’ll report back how I solve the problem. Amazon stacking kit More on reddit.com

Just wanted to vent/share my experience with my washer/dryer. I live in a condo where a stackable electric washer-dryer is the only option. This is inside a closet next to the water heater, so space is tiny and 27 inch wide is the max I can get. In Jan. 2011, the 9 year old GE set broke (actually just the washer, but since the model has been discontinued I had to replace both). I bought Samsung from Best Buy at $450 each. In Feb. 2017 the washer broke down. I didn’t even think of repairing it as pulling the unit out and unstacking to diagnose the problem probably wasn’t worth it. So I bought another Samsung washer for $520 so I could keep my dryer (stacking compatibility and all). Fast forward to Jan. 2024 and guess what, the washer breaks down (sounds like the shock absorbers/springs) so here I am shopping for another Samsung washer ($650) because my dryer is still going strong. Does anyone here have a Samsung dryer that’s lasted 20 years? I’m just wondering if I should just replace both units, or keep my dryer? Thanks for listening.
So, TLDR: Samsung dryer is 13 years old and still going while the washers have lasted exactly 6 and 7 years. So I can see where both the Samsung haters and fans stand.
