"Stanley Tucci believes that the best way to understand a country is through its food. Nowhere is this truer than in Italy, where the shape of your pasta and the sauce you serve it with speak directly to identity— and differentiate each region from the next. In this new series, Stanley's on a culinary quest to explore the connection between the food, the land and the people of the country he loves." More on reddit.com
I watched Stanley Tucci's Searching for Italy series on CNN covering a pasta dish at Lo Scoglio in Massa Lubrense. It's spaghetti alla nerano and it was apparently a life-changing experience for him amid his effusive praise for it. I was in that area in Spring 2024 and went to try that pasta.
I love spaghetti nerano and it's one of my favourite pasta dishes, but in the end it's pasta with zucchine and provolone, nothing life changing or anything. I'm sorry you were disappointed but it is what it is, everyone has their own taste. More on reddit.com

December 28, 2020 - I also enjoyed watching Stanley prepare dinner for his crew (Milan episode?). I'm not sure what he prepared, but it looked good! ... Not that my humble opinion matters one whit to Msr. Tucci, but I think he did a great job overall. I may have to order one of his cookbooks. Only once did I see him visit a chef or guide I've seen in other travel series. That was in the Tuscany episode, when he talks with white-haired Fabio Picchi, who was featured in Season 1 of Phil Rosenthal's damn good series 'I'll Have What Phil's Having'.

August 26, 2025 - Searching for Italy takes its audience through the most obvious stops on the Italian itinerary (Rome! Milan! Tuscany!) while winking at the darker crevices of our imagination." Caroline Framke, writing for Variety, criticized the series for choosing to air an episode filmed during a brief period of respite from the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy as the first episode. However, she praised Tucci for exploring Rome's less well-known locations and meals in the second episode, including "a fascinating detour into the inventive ways Italian chefs have transformed offal, or all the organs and bits of gristly meat that poorer Italians learned to work into delicacies."

It was fine, but unmemorable in terms of taste, and definitely nowhere close to tasting amazing. The only memorable part of the pasta was how disappointed I felt and also the ridiculously high cost of dishes in that restaurant. I don't have a problem with paying a high price for amazing tasting food.
Taste is obviously subjective. It's possible they prepared the dish in a extra special way since it was for a TV show. It's also possible that Tucci's taste is questionable. Has anyone eaten this pasta at Lo Scoglio, and if so, what were your thoughts?
I know it’s not about Naples, but didn’t know where else to post this.

He was so arrogant about the accents in Naples. It was insulting. Little snob of a “man”.
