r/xmen on Reddit: What's everyone's opinion on Taylor Kitsch's Gambit? I thought he was okay
August 1, 2024 - Kitsch was fine, and so was the overall portrayal of Gambit in that movie. That it wasn't the best X-Men movie doesn't take away from one of the redeeming qualities ... Better than Channing Tatum - he had a badass/slick vibe to him. plus it ...

Taylor Kitsch's Gambit
As much as I like Channing Tatum in certain films, I agree with this. His depiction of Gambit may work as a cameo in a Deadpool film but carrying a solo Gambit film is an entirely different matter. Among other things, I just don't see him having the versatility to pull it off. Given enough time and direction, Taylor Kitsch would have killed it as the Ragin' Cajun. More on reddit.com
What's everyone's opinion on Taylor Kitsch's Gambit? I thought he was okay
I don't know if this is controversial or not, but I always thought Kitsch was a much better fit for Gambit than Channing Tatum. I just think that Kitsch has more charisma and swag, he's more suave, and from what I've seen, is a better actor than Tatum. I mean.... look at him, Kitsch is the most Gambit looking dude I've ever seen. It's genuinely frustrating knowing that Fox had some great actors, who resembled their comic book counterparts, but they were wasted or written poorly. James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Ben Foster as Angel, hell even Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth. All great castings in my opinion, but most, if not all, of them were just wasted. More on reddit.com
Which one do you prefer?
Taylor Kitsch‘s Version could have gone far if they had actually cared enough for the character back then. He was one of the better parts of that movie IMO, it’s sad that Gambit like a lot of other mutants never made it into the main X-Men movies considering his popularity. Channing Tatum‘s Gambit worked because it was clearly a parody of the character who specifically existed in the realms of a Deadpool movie. If this was actually a serious adaptation of the X-Men I would have hated it. More on reddit.com
What was your opinion on the gambit in X-Men origins Wolverine?
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I thought Taylor Kitsch was better casting and a better actor than Channing Tatum. However, that movie was terrible and so no one came out of it looking good. More on reddit.com

Taylor Kitsch | Actor, Producer, Director
July 31, 2025 - With all the success and a humble attitude, we're pretty sure that Taylor is going to be one of the "Must Watch" stars for the coming years. When he's not on set, Kitsch pursues children's charity work and enjoys spending time with family and friends. ... Modeled for Diesel and Abercrombie & Fitch. ... Fumbled his first reading for the part of "Gambit" in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) because he was too tired.

Why Taylor Kitsch's Gambit Only Appeared In X-Men Origins: Wolverine - IMDb
1 month ago - "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" even teed up potential spinoffs by introducing Ryan Reynolds as a pre-Deadpool Wade Wilson and Taylor Kitsch as the Ragin' Cajun himself, the smooth-talking, card-chucking thief Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit.

Unpopular opinion but I think Taylor would've done a great job under a competent director and storywriter

Agree. Channing Tatum is too bulky and his facial features are too round to be comic-accurate Gambit. His hair also didn't have enough volume in the movie - making the headgear look awkward. Credit to him for the Cajun accent though. Gambit always strikes me as a sharp-featured, slim and agile type. In that sense Taylor Kitsch has a closer build. If the costume team can improve on Tatum's gear we'd see more promise.

Former Gambit Actor Confirms if He's Ever Returning to the Role Alongside Channing Tatum in the MCU [Exclusive]
October 1, 2025 - Originally lined up for a small role in X-Men: The Last Stand, the Cajun card-slinger was never a big-screen priority, despite Channing Tatum’s name circling the role for years. That false start was followed by an even stranger twist: Gambit was finally in play for X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), but when Tatum’s schedule kept him tied to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the part went instead to Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch.
