What's your head cannon? Are the dinosaurs real or are they monsters?
I’m going off of the film canon here. I believe wholeheartedly that John Hammond was sincere in that he wanted to recreate these animals as best he could for the world to enjoy. He wanted to make something that was real, not an illusion. I’m imagining myself in Spielberg’s shoes here. Spielberg stated that he changed John into a benevolent figure because he saw so much of himself in Hammond. Spielberg based his entire career off of bringing people spectacle. Were I in Hammond’s place, I would be doing the exact same thing. That being said, I believe the resultant dinosaurs were just as far removed from their irl versions in the JP world. I believe the InGen scientists knew this, but were genuinely doing the best they could with the limited DNA they had in the 80’s. More on reddit.com
Do you think it is possible to bring the dinosaurs back to life, and if so, when? I'm waiting for your opinions
It depends on the dinosaur. DNA breaks down completely over just a couple of million years, and it’s completely useless after after a few thousand (it can vary based on climate). Any dinosaur that went extinct within the past few hundred or thousand years could possibly be brought back. Something like Raphus cucullatus is probably one of the least controversial and species to resurrect and has had some of the most research put into it. I’m guessing you actually mean non-avian dinosaur. The answer to that is definitely not. Jack Horner has tried and failed. He was claiming it can help to teach about evolution, but really he just wanted to eat it. The project involved reactivating dormant genes in a chicken to give it teeth, scales, hands and a tail. The genes to create a long tail don’t exist in chickens so he tried creating a chimera using a crocodile’s tail genes. Technically the project is still ongoing but everyone in palaeontology criticises it and progress has basically stopped altogether. The DNA of non-avian dinosaurs is gone, there are no close enough relatives to serve as surrogate mothers and you can’t turn one species into another with gene editing. This is a complete fantasy and waste of scientific funding. More on reddit.com
What's the most interesting dinosaur fact you know?
They didn't look the way most people envision them at all, because most dino art up until very recently treated them as if they were just skin stretched tightly over skeletons with very little muscle or fat. Animals simply don't look that way. They were likely chubbier and fluffier than what we envision, especially around the face, and that's not to mention the feathers and plausible bright coloration. r/JurassicPark on Reddit: What's your head cannon? Are the dinosaurs real or are they monsters?
December 10, 2023 -
In the fictional Jurassic Park Universe, which do you think is true?
John Hammond's presentation is generally accurate and the animals in the park are clones of real dinosaurs with few minor genetic modifications.
John Hammond was always a con artist and his "dinosaurs" were no different. The animals Ingen created for Jurassic Park were cleverly engineered genetic monsters that were designed specifically to look and act like what people thought dinosaurs looked like.

They are mutants, hybrids blending the real thing and current species. Ingen made them without knowing what they are going to get at first, and eventually they focus on what it would be more commercially successful in Hammond's opinion (which was set on what regular people expected dinosaurs to be and his delusion of bringing back real dinosaurs), even when Wu suggested to create more docile/slower animals.
