May 22, 2025 - This endlessly entertaining study in class and family is a witty, star-packed treat that zips through five tight episodes. Here’s hoping for a second season

The writing of The Guardian down to its characters beat and development is just a weak rehash version of the first Scandal movie only with a bigger budget now and although the first Scandal movie was ridden with plot holes it still accomplished what it set out to be while The Guardian strength relies on how much you know this famous guest star singer or care about the V-pop genre, to begin with.

November 26, 2025 - There’s also a plot that isn’t quite as rote as we’re used to with no career-minded woman waiting to be tamed by a family-craving hunk. These might not sound like major, applause-worthy diversions but in the hopelessly generic, and at times unforgivably lazy, world of Netflix Christmas fodder, it’s not nothing.

November 13, 2025 - Because it is, simply put, so very, very good. Even without two astonishing performances from the lead actors – Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys – the script, the sheer style and confidence of it all, would be things of beauty.

November 19, 2025 - Like American chocolates that no longer, in fact, contain real chocolate but sell like gangbusters on Halloween anyway, the Netflix Christmas movie, like rival holiday movie master Hallmark, is relied upon, even beloved, for its brand of badness, for its rote familiarity (nostalgic casting, basement-bargain budgets, Styrofoam snow, knowingly absurd premise) and uncanny artificial filler, for its ability to deliver hits of sugary pleasure while still somehow under-delivering on expectations. At worst, these films are forgettable train wrecks (last week’s A Merry Little Ex-Mas); at best, they are forgettable fun, such as the Lindsay Lohan comeback vehicle Falling For Christmas, of which I remember nothing other than cackling with my friend on her couch.

It’s too bad the plot was such a trainwreck because The Guardian is beautifully shot and seems to have had a decent budget. If they had delivered a film that matched its description they might have managed to give Netflix another breakout film. Instead, it’s a dull and disgustingly smug and moralistic thriller that lacks thrills or characters you’ll care about.

1 month ago - It was CCTV footage of Combs punching, kicking and dragging Ventura through a hotel corridor that first brought the walls crashing down on him, and the series is highly insistent that this was far from a one-off event. Ventura sued Combs for rape and domestic violence in 2023, and reportedly received a $20m settlement. However, what caused Combs to demand Netflix remove the series is something even more eye-opening: footage filmed in the week before his arrest.

A domestic goddess in the wink-wink Nigella vein (if only!)? A fake flaunting her wealth? Is it a cynical money-making exercise (Netflix reportedly paid the Sussexes £78m for their overall deal)?
